Hey all. Well I was feeling pretty good today so I got around to cutting a few more of Susan's prudent man agate cabs. Here you go Susan. Both of these are 40x30mm

Cher's right, Ed -
That 2nd piece is stunning. These are still cuts from the first slab? KD is working some of this, too, and John should have a piece here pretty quick to play with.
I just love seeing what all the different grinders come up with and how they orient the plumes, etc. I'm trying to develop an "eye" before I actually start cutting.
Y'all are truly an inspiration to me. ;D S

Susan, the second one is from the same slab as the others and the first cab is from the second slab. Personally I like the first cab better. The material from the first slab is sort of weird to work because the agate part near the top of the cab actually kinda soft and you've got to be really careful when grinding because the cab can be ruined in a blink of an eye. The second slab seems to be more equal in hardness. Anyway, there's probably 4-6 cabs left on those two slabs, so stay tuned.

I'm slowly working some of the Prudent Man I have. Here are a few bits waiting for some time on the grinder. They were saw cut and then tumbled a bit in 120 grit. (thumbnail) This is the slab. One piece has been finished through polish (on right side of picture), but I can decide if I want to drill a hole in the top for an eye hook or to fashion a PMC bell cap. I need a better macro to get s good shot of the finished piece. It looks nicer than the photo. I will try to get a better one the next time I set up the light tent. I am also starting to think that the slabs the miner cuts are just a bit too thick for tumble polished pendants. I am tempted to buy a piece of his rough and slice some of my own. (But, I am tempted by just about anything agate or jasper)

Ed- I think I sent you the darker grey slab... he had that one listed as a Grade-B slab, but it was my favorite of all the slabs I purchased. I really liked the darker colors in that slice. So, the first cab is from the darker slice? I keep looking at it - it has a lot of depth. Wish I could see them in person...sure will be interesting seeing more from that slab...yep. Thanks for sharing. S

Thanks guys. susan, I'll get my butt in gear and get the rest of your rocks slabbed and get these cabs done so you can see them in person. They really do look a lot nicer in person.

Dang, I'm confusing myself, the more I see that first one, the more I like it. It's running very close to the 2nd one. Both are just cool!

Now Cher, no sense in getting confused, it's okay to like both of them. I like the second one because of the "fire wave" going across the stone. Looks better in person.

Yeah, I think I just have to give in and like them both too but that first one is like looking out of a window or a cave or something, it's just cool.
