I guess its been a month or so since I posted pics of any of my cabs, its been a rough month for me with my girlfriend passing away June 12th, she had been my inspiration while I'd been cutting these last few months and its taken me a while to get back into it, but here's the latest; I'll try to get close-ups "by request" but setting up and trying to shoot all 32 is a bit more than I'm up for.

Wow!!! Excellent job on those Pete. I recognize alot of those stones. I really like the shapes and the shine is fantastic. I'm sorry for your loss, I'm sure it has been a difficult time for you. I'm sure she is smiling down on you as she looks at these beautiful cabs. Take care.

Nice work Rally, Sorry about the loss. Rocks are good connectors for these events i feel. I like them all, The owyhee in the middle my Fav, nice shape and quaitly rock. Looks like you got a set in the right hand corner. Or close to being a set? Nice either way.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
This batch represents about 3 actual seperate runs, and only about half of what you see here was finished on both sides.
All together they took a about 6 weeks, but that was with a lot of down time- now that I'm back at it a little more regularly, I seem to turn out a batch of 10 finished on both sides in about 3-4 evenings.
And Shain I have to admit that I can't seem to manage to control things well enough to really cut a "set" quite yet. The OJ in the lower left are different in that one is twice as thick and getting a dome on both sides while the thinner one's backside is just getting a flat with a bezel edge, the little green agate thingies you pointed to are similar in that one is about twice as thick as the other.
As much as I disdain the "calibrated" cab mindset, perhaps the discipline of doing a batch to templates would be a good exersize for me to approach soon.

A trick when cutting sets*
onces you get them close to each other by trim or shaping. I use "bluetac" (a glue putty) to stick the two stones, back to back together. And then i refine the matching shape together, instead of apart and trying to guess by eye of the matching shape. After they are almost perfect matching. I dome them and refine the bezel. And in some cases repeat the frist part of the step with them back to back to finish the final matching shape.
It is a good mindset, as much as i hate calibrating stones. It good to know and try. And matching sets can be much more rewarding becsaue the shape doesnt have to be the standard oval or round. You can still keep it freeform i say.
