~How to Make Plume Agate Doublet CabochonHey Folks, i have completed a breif write up on Plume agate doublet making. And if you click on the photo in this thread, it will take to the full write up. ----------------Start-----------------------------------Its very important for this to work, to have very clear plume agate. I know for a fact the Regency, Graveyard, Idaho Plume agates works awesome for this type of cabochon. But the more clear the base agate, the better end result. *Another problem you may run into it pitting in the agate. So please take the time to properly select "doublet" grade rough or slabs. Very clear base agate, few to no pits, and ideally little or no fractures. A note on Slabbing for doublet making; Always try to cut thinner slabs for doublet making. Most often my doublet slabs are 3/16 inch thick or thinner. As you really don't need a thick cabochon, but in the case here with these two slabs. My Plume slab was 3/16inch thick, but my backing slab was thicker. And you'll notice in the finished cabochon a deep bevel to the back of the cab. Thanks guys, dont hesitate to ask me questions when you getting aroudn to trying it. And i have lots of backing material if you have a hard time coming up with cheap black rough that works. I have to update the page with a few more photos of approching the pieces by triming and preforming them frist, before glueing. So check back at it by this weekend and those photos will be up.
