Hmm. *S* Hate to quibble but I just can't help myself. Second slab is not what I'd call Bird Of Paradise . Colors and pattern of the material looks more like Riveria Plume Agate to me. Both the cabs are really nice!...mel

That's some interesting material and some very nice cabs KD. The second slab looks a lot like the Roostertail Agate I have. Good to see some of your work.

KD *L* You know, I think we did. The" Agates with Inclusions" website has a fine picture of that material in the Mexico section and Pat is the "expert". He calls it Riveria Plume. Unfortunately, old lapidary dudes at gem shows are the usual reason that so much misidentified material is continually being floated around. Like you've said, beautiful whatever the name.
Ed, I agree I've seen stuff called roostertai plume that is a dead ringer for this material but it does not have that pinkish swirly stuff which is the identifier for Riveria. The material I call Pata de Gallo or roostertail is actually a fine moss-plume material with swirls of orange , yellow and red on a white to blue background. Not sure but I think Riveria is a Chihuahua material while the other is from Durango...mel
PS: Niether of those examples you've linked are good classic example of Bird of Paradise. Actually Bird of Paradise is usually a subtype of Flame Agate from Chihuahua. The Agates with Incusions site is a good reference for Bird of Paradise and many pics of different flame types. ( several of the pinkish flame types Pat pictures are what I've always known as BOP) Bird of Paradise occurs in the same deposit as Confetti Agate and is usually characterized by flames or plumes of confetti agate colors, yellow , orange , pink and some red but quite a bit different from Riveria bros material.

yeh, that website is awesome, great photos: www.agateswithinclusions.com/index.htmlunfortunately, it only has one picture of the elusive BOP agate. a lot of these mexican plume agates are very similar and they are all beautiful! KD

Yeah KD *L* and I don't really agree with him on his BOP example as it's atypical. The pinkish, orangy yellow flame agates he pictures are much closer. If you check his pic of Riveria PLume though, it's a dead ringer for your stuff....mel

Hey KD I posted a slab of that blue/green stuff last week. Isn't it so pretty?!! I haven't decided what to do with mine yet as like you said, it's soft. I don't know what anything is called, but PRETTY!!
