Well it has been a long time since I finished a cab- so last week I sat down at the grinder and vowed to get SOMETHING done each night that I could- So here are the results- 4 Boulder Opal cabs (thanks to those who shared some material with me!!!) First- not a lot of opal- but some flashes when turned under bright light- But I do love the shape of this one! and the back Next has some cool stuff on thefront- but the matrix is real soft and the back had some little pifire spots that would come and go as I ground Back side (was originally gonna be the front- but you know how it goes with opal) next chunk is just a lot of Opal (blue area) not a lot of flash to it- but still cool and finally the best of the batch (IMHO) this one has a concave surface which makes the shine look funny in the picture- but I like this ones color a lot and the concave surface and one more shot to show the reflection of the surface (man this shine just messes with the camera huh?) Thanks for looking- It feels good to be grinding again!

Very nice Stefan. That back ground blends in well with the cabs. I like them all but the last one rocks!! Tonja

LOL and I thought the background was too similar to the rocks, kind of takes away from them. Stefan, I'm so glad your grinding again, good for you!! That second one is cool, I like the green river. Yuppers, that last one does rock, very nice job on them.

Well it's about time Stephan. And a great batch of cabs to come back with too. Isn't boulder opal fun to play with? I've gotten to the point now where I won't even bother with the light brown matrix. The ones I did in the last set were so soft that material was still coming off on my leather belt! Now get your butt back downstairs and cut some more cabs.

Way to Go Stephan, Nice looking cabs for sure. The lat would be my fav too. The darker ironstone is by far worth it. I agree with Ed too. The last batch of rough i bought had some real flashy light brown matrix rough. Was slightly a bummer becasue it doesnt want to polish. But it can be super flashy when the opal is right.

Super cabs! I like them all. The backside of cab #1 looks like a necktie! I like the way that came out, especially the shape as you talked about. They all look great! Steve

Thanks All- I was originally taking pix on a white background- My camera just about screamed- just to much reflected light from the flash- the brown background (admittidly very distracting) gave me the closest color - I also tried a black background- but then everything came out too red- Yes these were fun to do- and I really got a good "feel" for what will and won't shine- The Green River (oh Cher- great name) cab actually had a lot more Purple flash in it- ummmm but well sometimes a cabber tries for perfection on material that Will not cooperate- and ummm well lets say the best of the purple fire ended up as sludge in the bottom of the drain pan-

Geeze- Well I have not given up cabbing- I just had to take a bit of time off- THis summer has been very difficult- and cabbing was not in the cards- But yes I do cab- I still have my grinder (tweet!) and I still love working with it- Don't worry I have 20 or so cabs at the 400 level- so more to come soon!
