Among these are some fire agate, a couple of pieces of "almost fire" agate, a pair of pieces of that mysterious purple and orange stuff as well as several pieces from an interesting chunk that steveholmes found while we picked around in the wash before we went into Oatman; Fire agate is really neat but very tricky to cut, the brown and clear stuff that occurs with it is nice to work too, but lacks the magic that a stone with good fire has Still don't know what this is- apart from being a bit porous- just the color and patterns are wild enough to outweigh the marginal shine one can get due to the porosity; I'm fairly sure that this is the stuff that Steve found, its like a brecciated jasper with blue agate veins and these little pockets of white potch opal, pictures hardly do these justice Then this little guy came from an interesting piece, I don't recall whether steve or I picked it up, but it seemed to have a purple and orange layered structure with this yellowish crust on one side- the internal colors were not like they looked outside but quite pretty anyway Despite the heat, it was a very fun and successful trip for me too, and i didn't even have to break up any cliffs with hammers and pry bars- I just bought the rough fire agate off Don's bench, next time I probably will try digging -one day anyway.

Nice fire agate. Looks like you've been busy at the grinder lately.

That batch represents about two weeks of an hour here and an hour there, so Ed, I'm not playing in your productivity league by a long shot, but I have so much cool stuff to cut that I gotta have a few lined up and in process all the time.
Next week, Idaho miner direct purchases from my August Montana Field trip; Prudent man Agate, Spencer Opal, Bruneau Jasper
I had a nice batch out of the tumbler the other day too, I'll try to get a couple pics from that posted tonight.

Wonderful cabs. I have been wondering about the fire agate. I found a polished piece in a box of junk, it is all scratched up and needs to be reworked but I'm afraid I'll grind out the fire. KimJ

That is a valid concern the fire exists only in a microscopically thin layer, but if there is a little agate over it it should hold up to some light re-working, the stuff shines up pretty nice even with just 3000 grit but it gets glass smooth with 50,000

Nice to see you got at least one with fire! They are a little elusive in Oatman, but they are still around.
