when you say combo, you mean a Cabochon/trimsaw machine, correct? I personally have never had a combo and alays ahve used basic 2-4 wheel machines. Keeping my trim saw seperate. Personall without experince on combo machines, i cant really help much. But i ahve seen the Diamond pacific used allot, with mixed opinions on the trim saw attachment. Still a well biult machine.

Thanks rockds! I looked at that sight and they have a good price on the Rock Rascal TM.
Freeform, Yes to your description of combo machine. I'm open to all advise.
I'm new to this hobby and love the search and tumble of local stones, but would like some more hands on. As I'm sure is the same with you both, limited on time, space and expendable $. Making a trip this Friday to a farm not too far away, to look for our State Rock, Mozarkite. Thanks again!

They use DP Genies at William Holand, so that's what I ended up buying. I use a tile saw purchased at Home Depot and put a diamond blade in it; I've been very happy with that. It won't cut anything thicker than a slab, but for $40 it was a deal.

i took a year trying to decide whether i wanted to go with a cheaper unit or the genie which was so highly recommended. i went with the genie and have not been disappointed.

one of my first machines was a lortone lu-6 I still have it altough I use the 6" saw just for tourquoise and other soft or expensive stones I have sc wheels on it and for some jobs I still prefer it to my others for a beginner with limited funds and someone that doesn't mind changing wheels I would look for a good used one. if funds are not a problem the gennie would be the way to go.
