Hi. I bought a lot of rubies, that where marked as Madagascar Rubies, from one of the gem shows I went to a couple of weeks ago. By a lot I mean a parcel of rubies, 29 of them all around 1 1/2" long and as thick around as my index finger. They have the classic octagon shapes. I decided to play with one to see what it was about. I just shaped it and put it through the stages and shined it. It has a few internal cracks that as I shaped it, some appeared worse and others dissappered. Same with the small holes. I did get a half way descent cab out of it. I don't know what I will do with it though. Do you guys think I could wrap it or should I just keep it like it is? These rubies are so dark they almost appear purple. Thanks so much for looking! Tonja

I think it would look greta with a gold wrap.

Thanks Jonje. I will probably do just that. Does anyone know the conversion formuls to convert grams to carats? If there's not one, how do I get the carat weight of these rubies? Thanks, Tonja

Cool Toad. Thanks for the website. According to it, this ruby is 30 carats. That's cool! Thanks again. Tonja
