I'm kind of hesitant to post this here amongst all the pros, but I'm just so excited that I cut and ground and (ahem) polished my first cab today! This was my first chance to try out my new Highland Park machine, and after buying a new saw blade and cleaning her up a bit I cut a few slabs and zeroed in on a nice Brenda plume and decided to try my hand flying blind lol. I still have a couple hoods to make so I was getting plenty wet but had fun. Here's what I cut! The cab is dry.. that's a shine! LOL not a liquid shine, but a dull wanna be shine. Here's indoors (and blurry) Little micro vugs collected some polish, which I had no idea how to use lol. I've still got loads to learn. It's far from perfect but it's my first ever and I'm kinda proud ;D Thanks a lot for looking!

Congrats on your first cab. Not a bad looking cab at that. Be careful though, cutting cabs is very addictive-even more so than tumbling. It's the feeling of taking a rough rock and making it a nice polished rock in a matter of minutes rather than months that will get to you. Now take that cab and put it in a drawer and one a week from now on, and in a year, take them all out and look at your progress. Here's a good link to help you get started in the right direction. www.rockhounds.com/rockshop/oplc_cab.shtml

Not bad for the first time. What I have found is the better the dome, the less of scratches and pitting in the middle of the cab. I wish I could have learned that early on as I have some redo's to fix. Hope this helps and keep them coming!

Thanks everyone!!! ;D
Steve I was flying blind on my new machine. Got a little more practice with it today, and after reading the link Stoner posted I realized a bunch of things I did wrong. Now I'm torn between 'fixing' this one and keeping it as is lol.

Nothing wrong with that. You may want to get some brazilain agate to practice on, its cheap, takes a great shine and makes wounderful cabs. When I was starting out I cut up lots of brazilian to proctice on before jumping in with my nicer stuff.
