The first one you may have seen before, (more of a pendant) I tried to follow the shape of the pattern in the rock. It is a fairly soft jasper from Sands that I stablized when I saw some udercutting start, so it went around and behind and did it a little anyway. On the upper right you can see where it wore on the back, that was a straight line going in. This was on me and lesson learned!! This is a piece of Jamies pet wood. It is not supposed to be a half moon, and the upper left is not supposed to be a good arc, I was trying to contrast the dipping of the white lines. Not perfect or even good but I am learning. Mark

Mark. I really like the look of the wood cab. Great color, pattern and shine and fine flowing lines. Pretty darn cool!....mel

Looks like you got a heck of a shine on them, what did you shape them on?

Damn fine job Mark. You've been holding out on us, huh? The first one is nice but the wood is awesome. I like the shape a lot. What are using to shine them up? Looks good. But only 2? Just kidding.

I can't lie, the whole batch never made it to polish in a rotary. They spent two weeks in prepolish while I was gone to Tx (Sorry I know you are all sick of reading about it), In fact there was not enough prepolish in it. I found I had run out after 2 tbs so left it in a extra week (Ronda can verify that we talked about that) I took them out yesterday and thought no need to go further. But you are right it is a good shine on all of them in person.
Shaped on a 100sc wheel mounted on a converted bench grinder then took out ridges/flat spots on a dremmel mounted in a drill press, make shift, but it will get better.

Wellll, Right now it is hard to spend anytime in the garage. If I had something like mailmans bigfoot I could set it up in the house. I think I will have a little time this weekend to shape and dome then in a couple of weeks get them out of polish. Thank you all for your kind words!!

Well I did until the trip, and then others fell into my lap. The rock in the second pic took me two days to figure out just trying to compliment and contrast the lines at the same time. I wish I could just glance at something like that and know what to do like we do at things like picture jasper. Maybe it will come in time. Did you have a suggestion?

Patience Mark, keep at it and soon the stones will start talking to you(no, they won't be saying anything about Hooba). You'll pick up a stone and start grinding and before you know it, boom, there it is! Hell, that's half the fun.

I just keep looking at a rock- looking and looking- eventually a cab will pop out at you- then you just got to grind it till it's there!!! SOmetimes the cabs are right in plain view- and sometimes you gotta go search (grind) for em- but they are there- you just gotta look (and listen for em)
