I had to get rid of the gum I used for displaying my cabs (the flavor had all gone!) I got a how-to for this stand the "invisible holder" (I wonder where I heard that before) - now I need a decent cover. Here are the cabs, I discovered that when I polished the cabs, the pad should be kept very wet it seemed to help a bit - as well as my getting all the scratches out & double checking for them - the fact that my protective goggles had scratches didn't help my seeing them properly either. This is a veer freeform piece of chevron amethyst - it's like a boot shape! - I may toss this one in the polish barrel next time - or back to 500 - but I really like it tiger eye w/ hawk eye - another piece for my dad's ring - twice I'Ve done them and they have fracture lines... - I've dropped it and they seem to hold.... it needs a diamond wheel but this'll have to do A shot of silver sheen obsidian - this stuff sure is pretty Some sort of mossy freeform - I may drill this one Green jasper - the first time I see this stuff - I very much like this Ohhhhhhhhhhhh blue lace agate - this stuff is HARD, very hard! can't see any scratches but the surface is kinda textured... blue rock! I think this one is some sort of pet wood - I REALLY like this freeform (I'm usually not very good at the freeforms but I'm getting better) I really like the shape and the stone & the design - heck I really like this one I'm still working on the photo skills - my camera doesn't have apperture speeds, so it,s all auto - but I'll keep trying.. Thanks for looking

Well Tweetie, all I can say is you've come a long way baby! The cabs are looking great and the photos are 100% better. The presentation is half the battle of making your work stand out, and you've nailed it. Love the new stand!

Well Well Well- Looky what we have here!!!Tweet!!!!! Man those are nice- I love that last Pet wood (Maybe a brazilian agate???) and the tigereye!!!! I have given up trying to cab that crap- All I manage to do is rip out the fibers- or chip the surface- Now a trick about scratched up goggles- When your chaecking the cabs for scratches TAKE THE DAMN THINGS OFF!!!!!! (hehehehe) No really I never inspect the cabs with the naked eye (or goggled eye for that matter) I only look at them under a loupe!! (as a matter of fact After I finish a cab I'm often amazed how it looks to the naked eye- cause I study them so much under magnification that I don't get the full effect till they are done!!) Oh and what flavor gum were you using? (you crack me up!)

Did your chewing gum lose its flavor on the grinder overnight? Nice cabs, Tweetie. Especially the orange freeform moss and the wood. Rich

Sweet cabs tweet. Glad you mastered getting the scratches out. I let mine dry out before I inspect them- that and I spend my time on the 600 grot stage. That's where a lot of the scratches come out in my opinion.
I like the blue lace agate and the pet wood. Nice freeform shape. Don't be afraid of doing freeforms, because they are what they are- freeform. If you grind off too much, don't worry about it- it just get more freeformish. If you go too far and end up with a weird shape that looks like a potato, then call it a potato cab! No prob!
Nice batch of cabs. I can't wait to see more. Steve

My problem with the freeforms is I have trouble letting them be that - I'm still using my templates, but differently (like using part of a shape instead of using the whole shape). I guess my gum left a bad taste in a few mouths Actually it may have even been chewing gum in the end- you never know what the kids will do with stuff - this is much better, if only I could find a better angle As for that last piece, it may be agate, the whole slab is layered like that My scratches tend to be before the 600 - maybe 400 (hey if I have a very used 400 and 600 could I demote them to a lesser grit like after the 400 and after the 600 (500 & 700grits?)

Tweet- Sands taght me a little trick with used belts- Run the cab on them after you finish on the good belt (I.E Run the cab on the good 600 then run it dry on the used 600) It will really tell you if your ready to move on or not- the little bit of dust you create will stick in the scratches real nicely- almost like a highlighter!!! Just do it pretty quick cause the stones get hot pretty quick!
