Had a half day yesterday to compensate for long hours over the weekend (four hours off for 16 hours work - you do the math ), so took the time to finish putting my grinder together again with the new 120 wheel from jadecarver. Then I had to try it out! Didn't get a chance to post those two last night, so I thought I'd wait to add the ones I worked on tonight as well.
Okay - from 50 to 50000, with only a few burns resin belt burns near the end. (BTW - did you know that resin belts spinning very quickly hurt worse than diamond wheels? Yup, it's true! )
First - things I've learned (besides that little tip about resin belts):
1) Rocks do "burn". The dark marks on the Hickoryite weren't there until the 14000. *sigh* Guess I'll have to step back on this one to get the burn marks out.
2) Domes are tricky. I battled uneven bezels and sharp edged dome sections on all of these. In some cases, I won the battle, but NOT all of them.
3) It's very, very nice to be able to go from 50 - 600 without having to switch out belts! Just turn off the valve on one, and turn it on on the other!
4) It's very, very addicting! I worked on the last four tonight until the moths wouldn't leave me alone.
And now - the specimens for critique.
Group shot:
First two - done yesterday:
Hickoryite
Unknown
Tonight's contributions - I wasn't quite as careful on these ones, so I have a few spots (mainly on the bezel) that still have scratches. The faces shined up nicely, though.
Pet Wood
Rhodonite - image is blurred, but you get the idea
