Quite awhile back I won an auction on eBay and as soon as I opened the package, I was mighty glad I won! This agate was described as "pseudomorph after palm wood" and I think this description is right on target. This piece was so unusual and the colors were so killer, I couldn't wait to polish a couple of freeforms. I haven't posted any photos in awhile, so here are two cuties from this palm wood. I photographed these without any glare from the lights so you can see the detail better, but they both have a super high gloss polish on them. I hope you enjoy them! Vance

Beautiful, just beautiful. The patterns are amazing. Looks like someone painstakingly painted the little dots.

Astonishing! The one in the left reminds me a horn coral.

Man Vance, those are really nice cabs. Is that the same as a palm jasper out of Mexico? I'll have to post a couple of pics of some I bought from my Mexican miner friends. I couldn't figure out what the heck it is but mine has fans when cut the other way so I thought maybe some kind of sagenite-type pseudo after barite or something....mel

Howdy Vance, Here are a couple of pics of the material I got from some Mexcian prospectors called "Palm Jasper or Palm Agate" When cut perpendicular to the fans it has those spots like your cabs but the fan shape would indicate it's not really palm but rather some kind of sagenite or other pseudomorph. Is this the same material you've got in your cabs? Man I'd sure like to know for sure what the stuff is!....Mel

Wow, Mel...I have no doubt that your rock is the same as mine! I really don't know what to make of the fan pattern, but everything else about it says "palm". At any rate, if you haven't cut any cabs out of this yet, you should get some fantastic pieces out of it. If and when you do cab some, be sure to let us take a look. Thanks for posting these rocks.
