Hello all! Well I've finally decided to have a go at cabbing. So I've cut a rough circle out of a slab of pet wood that Rockyone kindly gave me (and Tony/catmandewe kindly slabbed for me). I've used the grinder to take the edges off and it is more or less a circle (well - close enough for a first attempt!) Sorry no pics at the moment - I'm a bit embarrassed by it compared to everyone else's first attempts!!! So what do I do now? I've bought a dop heater and wax and stuff so when I've attached the preform to the dop I just take it to the flat lap? Is there a special way of doing things on a flat lap as opposed to on vertical wheels? Right - here come the questions that highlight my total ignorance!!! ;D At what angle do I hold the preform to the lap plate? Is there a right or wrong pressure to use whilst holding it onto the lap? Do I have to keep it moving constantly or just let it sit there? When do I take it to the next lap? How do I get it evenly domed? In short - what the heck am I doing? Or should I just go back to tumbling?!? ;D Hope you guys can give me some tips - I've read quite a few online articles but I value your opinions also. Thanks in advance.
