I "might" have some stuff that will need treating, I won't know until I get home tomorrow afternoon. But more and more I am running into rock I am trying to cab that pits at every stage including 1200.
Yeah, yeah there will be instructions if/when I buy some but I want to know from those that have used it. I am sick of the wwr, Labradorite, Rhodochorsite and some soft Jasper that no matter how many times you (I) superglue the pits new ones show up during the next stage no matter how careful I am.
So my main question is will it seep even into the pits and cracks that I can not yet see with the 10x loupe? And do you like it?
The past week I have been tempted to change my Sig to "Pits Happen"
Thanks for any help

Hey Pits, for me, Opticon has been a hit or miss thing, mostly miss. It's supposed to saturate into the stone and cement it together and fill all the empty voids. But I've been told that it only effectively will do that when the stone is placed in a vacuum. Most of the times I've used it I couldn't get the damn stuff to harden. Soak the stone in superglue!

I have never tried Opticon, but I have heard that you can heat the stone before applying the Opticon and it will be drawn into the stone as it cools. Might be worth a try.

Ok. so how was it done? in slab or cab form?
I can see discovering that a cab will be trouble, setting it aside until another presents the same problem and perhaps another then soaking them at the same time to save product.
I have seen here and other places that a slab has been stabilized, to be honest I don't want one like that. But when there is no other choice what can I do?
There have been a couple of cabs lately that I completely covered the top in super glue and waited for them to dry (did not use the accelerant) after the 600 belt and one after 1200, then went back to 400 to get the glue off only to find new pits with each stage, I am getting frustrated , so I am looking for a solution.
Not to mention the new material I got yesterday that if if proves to be what I think it is may become a major problem.

I've use it very little but the way that worked best was to fill each pit and/or crack using a tooth pick.On deep ones you may have to go in twice or three times.heat helps...

I've been wanting to try it recenty and have some slabs that were soaking in TSP and are now drying outside. I'm going to try it when after I pick up the right kind of pan (non coated stainless steel). I've never used it before and am also curious about good techniques for applying the stuff. Steve
