Okay, glad you decided to check out these opals. This piece has some awesome fire in it. I tried different settings to get the fire to show, so the first 3 photos are the same piece. And here's a Boulder opal, double domed because both sides have some nice patterns. Front Back(or visa-versa) And the WWR agate I posted in the photos section.

NICE FIRE!!! Those are gorgeous. You caught the fire in that first cab. All 3 photos show a differnet look but great fire in all 3. That boulder is awesome as ever! Great job. Thanks for the pics!! Tonja

I like mostly the "back" of the boulder opal. It looks like a landscape with a stormy red sky, and one can even see a lightning crossing that sky!

Spectacular Ed! Man, you can make Boulder Opal talk like Hendrix did with his guitar! Sweeet!

I used to play a lot of Hendrix songs when I was playing guitar Brian! Tony, the first on isn't boulder opal, just some nice fire opal. So your birthday is coming up soon KD? Hmm...do you prefer rough or a finished piece?

You know looking at these I finally figured out why I like opal so much, It reminds me of those liquid light shows back in the 60's. Pure colors just popping out at you! Really nice! Ed, when you start these is the color showing or are you having to chase it? Like on the double... was color showing on both sides or did you have to uncover it? T

Hey Tony W, sorry, I didn't see your question. You can usually see the nice colors once you've slabbed the stone, and then you have to watch out that you don't grind all the nice colors away. In this double sided BO, it was an end cut so I knew what the back looked like but I I had no idea what the front was going to look like until I started grinding. That's part of the fun in working this stuff.
