Great looking opals. they have got so much going on and are just beautiful. I can see how you you didn't have to grind much to get to the pattern in #1 and had to a bit in #2 by their shapes. All the hard work and extra sanding sure paid off! Love the blues and greens in #2 especially. Steve

Those are simply stunning!! You did a fantastic job on them difficulties or not. You are the master of this material. I thought opal was softish, around 5, so that must have really been some soft matrix. Thanks.

I love that stuff, it does for the eyes what a sweet smelling rose does for the nose. Tami

These are stunning. This stuff just blows me away. I can only hope to be good enough some day to work this material.

Those are really wonderful! Reminds me of an illustrated manuscript somehow. Do you have to cut a lot of waste away to get color over the whole face of the cab? Tony

Hey, Nephrite! Thanks for the pics. I have only seen bits of slabs and wondered how the stuff looked in the wild. So you sometimes buy chunks without knowing what is inside? Like a geode? I have been working on my first opals and I'm hopelessly hooked. I've worked on 6 small pieces, finished two, and one had fire over half of it and across the sides, and the other is like yours.. pea sized, mind you, but full of fire all the way around it like yours. I couldn't be prouder of that really, really small opal I've ground one too much, looking for fire, and the others I'm going slow trying to bring what I dimly see out. But the one was brilliant right from the start. T

Tony, sounds like you have the hang of it! When I start to see some nice areas I start grinding with 220 and very lightly. Post some photos maybe me or others can give tips.

Man, that is some awesome material, super shine. Stoner sent me a chunk and I am going have to slice it up and get cabbing.

Those cabs are stunning! You do great work on such contrasts. The tough Jade and the delicate opal. Daniel
