In this thread I showed you one of what I have coined as seam jasper. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=ccabs&action=display&thread=1189369587Now I have a little time and better photo skills,I'll show you some more and tell the story of getting this material.I lived in the area this comes from for 23 years and for 15 of those years I ignored the stuff. Its small tumble size pieces never more than 2 inches give or take. There was this new fellow in town who decided he wanted to polish rocks.Everyone in town pointed him my direction. This guy was so keen on learning the hobby he bought a Diamond Pacific Titan before he met me and knew what rocks to pick up.I took him to one of my favorite spots to collect Rosebud Agate. In this area seam jasper is under foot like gravel. He started picking it up and I told him to leave it...why would you want that? His response you ask?I quote "Why not nature has already slabed and trimmed it for you?" Boy did I feel like an idiot. It shows that a fresh perspective is good every once in a while. Seam jasper is actually a seam in very soft porous sandstone. It isfound in the cretaceous level (65 million years) there.Sometimes calcite will be sanwiched between 2 layers of the jasper.Ok here a few with a repeat I have already posted.First a piece of the rough...... sometimes it just a red red layered the repeat, better photo swirls of color and a calcite sandwich

Wow, that is some pretty stuff! I really like the first one with all the colors, but all of them are beautiful.
Here in E. Texas we have a very few agates. What there is are all very small. Hardly anyone works them because they are so small, but I've found some extraordinary pieces. Most will make a cab or two. Once you get them slabbed, there is very little trimming you have to do to make a cab.
