Hi all, I just finished ten chrysocolla cabs today that are going to a vendor in Arizona. Here is a photo of one of my favorites: This chrysocolla is from the Rowley Mine in Arizona. It is better known for its Wulfenite. I received a flat rater of this material in trade for a few cabs. Some of the chrysocolla rough even had pretty Wulfenite blades on them! This material is real variable like a lot of chrysocolla. There was some undercutting issues but all in all I am pleased with how they turned out. Thanks for looking, Shannon

Very nice Shannon! It looks like a day well spent; celebrating your birthday, even if you were feeling a bit 'under the weather". Hope your feeling better, and your cab looks fantastic. I wouldn't mind seeing more. Steve

Very nice. Is that the material they call gem silica (chrysocolla in quartz)?

John, No, this is not gem silica. The high grades of gem silica will be a very uniform blue color. The best way I can describe the really good gem silica Ive seen is that it looks like a bright turquoise agate, pure in color all the way through, with little to no inclusions. Here are a couple more photos of some of the ones I finished yesterday: Again, thanks for lookin! Shannon

KD,
That is all I got before packing the cabs up for shipping. I have a new camera, which I love. But I still havent figured out all the settings and I refuse to read the book (stubborn). Plus I made a light box yesterday and was experimenting with that as well. After about an hour last night and 10-15 photos later I finally figured out the light settings and got a few halfway decent shots. By then it was past my bedtime and I was grouchy!

I'm impressed Shannon. Those are well shaped and they stayed completely intact by the looks of it too, nice work! I've tried tumbling some after preforming the rough with the dremel and a diamond bit but all the pieces developed cracks and chips started coming off in the prepolish and polish stages. The more I see how brutal the tumbler can be with the more sensitive stones, the more I want to get a rock saw and a Pixie.
