I was sifting through my cabs today looking for a stone for a client and ran across this one.I said to myself "Self you need to post this cab for texaswoodie". There was a mesa where I lived in New Mexico that had a small petrified forest on one side of it.The pieces randes from 15 feet long down to tumble size. This wood is black and drab,I originally picked up a few pieces to use as backing for opal.I slabbed it up and when I was sanding it for backing the stuff came alive. For a black stone I think this is really attractive material.First the rough. Now the cab Brad

Wow Brad, I can't believe the difference polishing made on that material. Nice cab! I trust you picked up a boatload while you were out there? Thanks for the post!
My last trip I picked up a piece of black palm. Really nice looking material.

Hey Brad, Is that the same material you sent me? ? The one that you said not to be fooled by the drab appearance? Shannon

What a difference between rough and cab! You must have used a magic wand as a dop stick!

Just wanted to sneak this cab in under Brad's post..........he sent me a slab of this "drab" boring New Mexico pet wood. This is amazing material once cabbed. This particular one has red, white, and blue zigzags and even some white speckles in the center. It was easy to work and took a great shine. I really like the white going down the right edge. I found out its kinda hard to get a good photo of a black stone though. Thanks for looking! Shannon
