I got an early Christmas present of a new camera. Now I can post mine and Shawn's cabs and other things. Anyway. Shawn and I took a cabbing class a couple of months ago. I had the hardest time in the beginning getting that last little flat spot to round up, Shawn was a natural from the beginning. (I can get that flat out now with no problem) I'm pretty proud of the cabs we produced. Enjoy. This is my very 1st cab. Leopard Skin Jasper. It does have some undercuting in the softer spots. Its hard to see the shine in the pic, but it did shine up pretty good. THis is my 2nd. I wanted to do something that would take a high shine. Can you see the fish with her long fancy tail? My 3rd. I love pic jasper. I call this one "Taquilla Sunrise" Shawn's 1st THis is some kind of moss I think. It's really beautiful. Shawn's 2nd This is a red japer with hematite. There is a lot of undercutting in this one. But it's still pretty. This was Shawn's 3rd. He just wanted to play around with a shape. This is only cabbed on one side. I think he did a great job. Oh. This is pet palm wood. Thanks for looking. ~~Mitzi~~

OMG! I am sooooo glad you got an early Christmas present. Your cabs are beautiful!!! I can see that there has to be a nice glossy shine on the first by the reflection down on the lower right side. That Leopard Skin will make a dramatic pendant!!!
Your Pic Jasper is so smooth and mellow. Feels Good!
Shawn's moss makes me want to reach "into the water and play with the tendrils of moss". It's beautiful!
His Red Jasper is another dramatic piece. Again...beautiful!
The heart--WOW! It is one and yet it has the two parts separated by the dark chasm. It is evocative of a love poem. Are the two loves torn asunder or are they forever joined as one? Very, very romantic piece.
And last--my favorite cab...your vivid lung fish...the type that can swim in water and use its fins to walk on land. IT IS GORGEOUS!!! What an amazing piece! You have captured the story in the stone. When I look at it I give it the name "Evolution"...it looks like it is the transition from primordial ooze to walking the land. ABSOLUTELY Beautiful!!!!!
Thank you for sharing these beauties. And Thank You Santa for bringing Mitzi this wonderful camera so she can share the goodies with all of us!

Welcome to the world of cabbing Mitzi and Shawn. You picked a very difficult stone for your first attempt, but it looks like you did a great job. All of these cabs look great, especially being your first ones. Hell, they look better than the cabs I'm doing now after 2 1/2 years of cabbing experience! Your photos are excellent too, and that's half the battle of presenting your cabs as they look in person. Look forward to seeing more.

They are all very nice, the shine amazing. But I like how Shawn oriented the pattern in the stone for the heart.

Thanks for all the compliments. Guess I'll keep cabbin. LOL
We had a really great teacher. He's a member of our club and is a jeweler. He also does faceting. I think he teaches a class in silversmithing too. I'll take that class at some point.

Nice cabs Mitzi, the new camera seems to work pretty good too! What camera did you get? I can't wait 'til the day I can afford to get a cabbing machine so I can do proper cabs too...

The camera is a Canon PowerShot S5 IS. It is really fantastic. It has Macro and Super Macro, plus a whole lot of other features I havent learned yet.
Shawn is building us a cabbing machine. It's all done except for splash guard pans. He hasnt had time to make them. So I ordered a single one to use until they are ready. Just started using the machine last weekend. Will post pics soon.

Great cabs, Mitzi!
Tequilla's a beauty, and the moss is gorgeous. But the long-tailed fish is one-of-a-kind . . . best-in-show!!!
