Opals................*drool* beautiful job - any chance of getting a size reference? I find most pieces are pretty small but they look humongous on screen
(any tips on working that stuff?)

*sigh* Well if the rest of you are going to admit it I guess I can too. I am an opalholic as well. It doesnt help that its my birthstone and Ive loved it my whole life. And it doesnt help that Tony (nephrite) and Brad (stonesnbones) have helped feed my addiction by sending me opal. And it doesnt help that I keep buying it!!!! I have about a dozen boulder opals I am currently working on for christmas gifts.
I really like the second boulder opal.........and the gravel is nice too!

Thanks, ya'll. Knowing I'm not alone is helpful for sure. I no longer feel isolated... in truth, I feel liberated!! Giddy even. In fact I am no longer even going to try to fight it. I think I'll just spend, spend, spend!! Now... let's see... blood sells for how much?... I have some extra, I'm sure.... Tweet.... here is a great tute on cutting and grinding.... The opals are about quarter sized... narrower but about that long. www.koroit.com/cuttingopalarticlelinks.html Hey, Brad... now I know what I can trade you for some of the dino bone!! I just have to sell some blood and find a dealer Shannon... don't sigh.. just embrace it! And... I sure would like to get on your Christmas list Tony... I was hooked when I first saw yours and Ed's work on opals... once I ground on one I was doomed to a life of poverty Tony T... better get you some for your new grinder!

I hate opals! I hate em, hate em, hate em! They are the miserableest, nastiest, crankiest stone I have set, short of Tanzanite. Just when you think you have it set, or the stone is going to be ok, Crack goes the opal. Then, just when you have frustrated yourself beyond recognition, someone shows up with a simple ring repair and wouldn't you know, it is an opal. You have to unset the stone, solder the ring, then set the stone. They never go in the way they came out, and a lot of times, they crack, and the customer wants it replaced. I like saphires, rubies, diamonds. You can set them with a sledgehammer and all is well. Those are some beauties however. Would need a custom setting for them. I do like boulder opal. Good colour.
