OK I tried to cut and grind a boulder opal cab tonight. Without having the help of a preform. All I did was manage to ruin a great piece of stone. I used my 180 grit diamond wheel to shape it. I guess i dug too deep cause now I have some great exposed opal and lots of pits. Here is a pic. Ed, Nephrite my hats are off to you both. I have no idea how you guys do it. I don't see me doing any BO in the future. This one is going into my junk pile.

I don't think its all that bad, looks like a loaf of bread! Most of the lower grade B.O has pits so it doesn't matter how much you grind, they will always appear. Ed has a little trick to fix that, maybe he could help. Don't give up, keep them coming.

Jeremy, if I would encounter such problem I'd try to fill those craters with epoxy. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose. Wow, that really makes me want to try to cab one of these days a slab I've got from Tony!

Funny, to ship in one of those small padded envelopes is around 63 cents.

Just looks like it needs to be worked on more, to me, but then I don't know how small it's become.

used to be 63 cents until the rates and rules changed last May.....a small padded envelope now is considered a "package" if it is over 3/4" thick, which is real easy to exceed. so now we are talking more like $1.30, and add for additional ounces.
i'm not having a lot of luck with boulder opal either, Jeremy, so don't feel bad.
