I'm sure you master cabbers consider this just a not-noticeable scratch, but hey, it's a beginning, isn't it? Thanks for looking, Adrian

It doesn't count unless it's not on the nail. ;D

I could post pictures of my fingers but it would spoil people's meals. Last time I went to the grocery store, blood was dripping off my fingers. Fortunately I only cab on the weekends, so my fingers have time to heal. Try working with thin buff tops on a wheel without a dop stick.

It isn't a true measure of a cabaholic without blood or at least bandages. Bob

Adrian, as you know I don't cab but I do shape my preforms before tumbling on my way too powerful bench grinder.
I took yet another little chunk out of the edge of my right index finger yesterday afternoon. It stings! It stings!
However, my nails have hardened up heaps since I first started. They were ending up tissue-thin and were tearing way too short. What a mess. But now, I occasionally grind a bit of the nail as you have but they stay strong.
Mike...the non-cabber.

I have a box of band-aids that I keep handy - I put them on before, it protects a bit -

Where I live there are more "nail parlors" than there are fast food restaurants. Women even get fake toe nails. Imagine their expression when I say that I just got a manicure on my rock saw/grinding wheel! Nubs, abrasions, nicks, blood, etc.
It's okay.....they feel sorry for me! Those "rich broads" just don't know what they're missing!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D

You and I remind me of an old Willie Nelson song: ./~ "Mammas: Don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys-who-don't-dop, Don't let 'em use fingers to grind that ol' rough, Find 'em some SuperGlue, chopsticks, n' stuff!" ./~ Henceforth, I apply "Hard as Nails", & hereto I forthwith look seriously into dopping. (That's right: I do my nails with clear coat after I do demolition & hauling, drink beer, work on my '64 Falcon, doctor my new tattoo, make oval cobochons, and gently mist my orchids!) P.S. I forgot: bleach my fingers and photograph them. Identity crisis? What identity crisis? ;D

Wow, Fossilbrain, bow to the master! ;D So THAT'S what it means grinded nails! I told you from the beginning mine is only a tiny scratch.

I got a nick in a nail on my very first cab but haven't since. I dop everything. Now when I woodturn I almost always cut myself on the wood or chuck. Never bad though, I just let wood chips fill the cut to staunch the bleeding. LOL

Whenever he'd cut is hands working on the car, he'd just wrap an oily rag around it and keep going. Ahhh...funny memories from childhood.

Haha, Granpaw, that was a good one! But I'll fix that Mel, somehow I feel better the stone while gripping with my fingers. Adrian

I don't chew my nails, it only looks that way. You know it is a lot of cabbing when 3 or4 fingers have skin and nails missing.....MrP

I don't understand what your problem is, I don't dop (much) but if your worried about your nails, maybe you should go back to tumbling and send that grinder my way - I collect them.
