Howdy folks, Boy, lighting sucks this morning. Had a big rain yesterday and it's so bright out this morning you almost have to squint your eyes. Here are a couple of more cabs I don't think I've shown, some old, some newer. The Queenies are the result of a test polishing in the tumbler. Came out like glass front and back though each does have a tiny pit at the bottom of the bezel from a softer inclusion that ground away. The pits are where they wouldn't show in a mounted stone anyway. The Purple one is actually African material and is more blue in real life. Thanks for looking.....Mel The Queenies: The African Blue Agate: Mexican Psilomelane Plume I just finished from a scrap. Only one more small piece from this slab but I got four nice cabs including two 30X40's from the same slice. This is actually nice and oval with a high crown but the shadows this morning are tough. Very neat material as the psilomelane background polishes out to the metallic silver color of a mirror.

Killer shine on them. Those pits will be hidden by the silver work, so no problem about that. That African blue is very special.

All of those are super nice. That blue is truly unique, though...you don't often find rocks that shade of lavender/blue.
Good job!

Nice cabs Mel. Is that Psilomelane plume as messy as the normal Psilomelane?

Tony: Yep, real messy. The psilomelane throws off black junk and the plume deep blood red. Gets all over everything!.....mel

I love Queensland Agate too but, like that guy mentioned in the other thread above, man do they have a strong tendency to show bad stress fractures after they are slabbed. Look perfect when first cut but I'd estimate over 75% of Queenie slabs fracture to the point there you can't get full patterns after slabbing and many are just flat unusable except for tumbling or real tiny cabs. The nodules must have considerable pressure built up and when slabbed they just let go. One fellow told me to grind the slab edges right after slabbing to inhibit cracking. Seemed to help a little at least *S* Seen that same problem in lots of Condor agate too...Mel

Really nice, Mel! The Psilomelane is new to me and I really like it. Does that mirror flash when ever you move it in the light? T
