Here's a not-so-rock-related contest that should take a couple days to complete, but for $2000, you can't complain!
You may even find some new rock collecting sites while travelling/hunting...?

It's the latest GPS contest, just like the ones i'm always raving about. This one requires co-operation from someone in Utah and someone on Vancouver Island (me). ;D
You need a 4x4, a metal detector, a GPS, knowledge of basic field navigation with GPS and a treasure hunter's sense of adventure. The fisrt team to arrive at the final position and report the correct GPS tag numbers will win it all!
I always seem to be looking for a team mate who can give the only other Utah team some competition. They have it way to easy and can afford to take their sweet time since there's rearely ever anyone on their heels. If anyone thinks they have what it takes to survive the Utah wilds and wants to have a blast doing something few people even know about, then feel free to give me a shout and I'll fill you in by email or over the phone if you prefer. (I have unlimitted long distance calling in N.A.)
These things are going on all the time, so it's not the end of the world after it's won. Anyone who is fairly skilled in the outdoors and has the dedication necessary to see it through is certain to get back all their expenses and then some for a year's worth of competing in these contests. The leading Utah team paid for TWO Jeep Rubicons from their prize winnings in 2004-2005 alone!
These things can be won by ANYBODY and "The TEAM" are fairly generous with their prize offerings, considering most people will do these purely for the thrill of competing in a real-life "Amazing Race"!
I figure rock hounds have to be one of the only kinds of people crazy enough to do this sort of stuff so I like to start looking here in the common roots.
