Poetry of Images Entries—Third Group of Ten
Hello Fellow RTH Members.
Phase 1 of the Poetry of Images Contest closed as of Midnight ET on Thursday, August 23, 2007. I was overwhelmed by the supportive response to my first solo contest. In all, 21 RTH members submitted a total of 50 poems! My original plan was to begin Phase 2—the Judging Phase—on Saturday, August 25th. Judging was to remain open until 12 Midnight, Saturday, September 1, 2007, and the winners were to be announced on Sunday, September 2, 2007.
I want to give everyone here at RTH the opportunity to enjoy each of these poems as much as I have. It just wouldn’t be fair to the poets and all of their hard and dedicated work to post all of their poems in one enormously long thread and post all of them at once as originally planned. So I am offering just ten poems per day over a period of five days. On Thursday, August 30th, I will post the specific rules for how you can cast your THREE votes via a PM to me. [If you attempt to cast your votes before 12:01 AM Friday, August 31st, I will simply return them to you and ask you to re-submit them when the Judging Phase formally opens.]
Please feel welcome to post supportive critiques and comments about the poems in each of the five Poetry of Images Entries threads. (Everyone is welcome to post in these threads: the Contestants; the Lapidary Artists whose work is featured in the attributed photos; and all of the other members of RTH.) This is your chance to show support for your favorite poem or poet; indulge in shameless self-promotion [this concept seems to have caught on very well ] if you are the author of one of these wonderful poems; and campaign for votes [dtcmor has taken an interesting approach re: campaigning ] when the judging opens on Friday, August 31, 2007 (via PM to Lady B).
Here, for your reading pleasure, is the third group of ten poems. They are posted in sub-groupings: Poems follow the respective images from the Gallery of Photos that inspired the poets. I take no responsibility for what might show up in the responses that follow my initial posting in this Thread. I suspect we just might see some interesting photos. Be prepared to LAUGH! ;D
The poems and their respective poets included in this thread are: Silicon Life Forms by blarneystone; Chrysanthemums on White by huffstuff; His Private Garden by krazydiamond; The Proof Is in the Stone by sabre52; Beware by NMrocks; The Fabulous Lady From Mars by dtcmor; The Roswell Ghost by adrian65; Owyhee by beefjello; Broken Hue by BuiltonRock.; and I've Rocks In My Head by pporky.

Chrysanthemums on White
by huffstuff
"Chrysanthemums on White"
Or maybe it's coral, I'm new.
Aren't you glad
I went ahead
And named your Cab for you?

The Proof Is in the Stone
by sabre52
On Roswell landings and UFOs,
There's often great debate.
Experts want proof, a body or such,
To prove an alien's fate.
So with eyebrow raised,
I ask, "What will it take,
Footprint, fossil or bone?"
"Or", with a playful wink,
As I hold up this slab,
"An alien picture in stone?"

The Fabulous Lady From Mars
by dtcmor
The fabulous Lady from Mars did view,
A spectacle of oceans blue.
An Earthly body in heavenly sky,
For her, enough to mystify.
She planned a trip of cosmic flight,
Through space and time, and airless night.
To visit that, which she had seen,
And search for life on lands of green.
The barren red soil that she called home,
Would soon be left behind alone.
She was the last of her own kind,
In search of a similar, inquisitive mind.
The craft she built soared out to space,
Aiming for her wondered place.
On comets dusty, sparkling tails,
For Earth she did set her sails.
Riding on showers of meteorites,
Her craft did fall in fiery delight,
To land upon the distant green,
Where Earthly beings did convene.
Sunken deep below the light,
The lady knew 'twas end of flight.
But, trapped she was in Earthly stones,
Thanks to Gods, no broken bones!
They followed her spark across the sky,
And watched it land; no more to fly.
Seek the spot, and then They dig,
The ashen rock, from space, so big.
After a time, a Gentle Hand,
Lifted her craft from golden sand.
Taken to a sheltered place,
Brighter than the dark of space.
Strange contraption, buzzing wheel,
Cutting edge of diamond and steel.
Gentle Hand begins the task,
The pattern clear, no need to ask.
To free the Lady, was the chore,
And end her journey from red shore.
Welcome her here from yonder stars,
The Fabulous Lady from Mars.

The Roswell Ghost
by adrian65
A flying saucer once passed over Nevada - Roswell
And right then the main engine was not working so well
So suddenly the saucer into the desert crashed
And all the aliens within the saucer smashed.
They all are ghosts now, living into the desert rocks.
If I would be the owner, I'd keep it under locks
For being sure that creature will not get out one day
And steal my rock collection into the Milky Way.

Owyhee
by beefjello
I think that I shall never see
Jasper quite like Owyhee
I'm not even sure how it's pronounced
Is "awe-a-he" how it's announced?
Or maybe it's like screaming "Owie!"
When you stub your toe, oh holy cowie!
However said, the name that grabs you
I just can't wait to slab and cab you!

I'm not even sure how it's pronounced

Broken Hue
by BuiltonRock.
There is an ancient book I read,
Within its Rock I have been freed.
Once it fell on me to crush,
And into pieces my life rushed.
Not tumbled pebbles pretty and bright,
But broken shards that stung at night.
This rock upon the ages built,
His goal was not of shame or guilt.
It seems His specialty is this,
Restoring lives to worth and bliss.
I gladly fall on my heavenly Rock,
This opens my heart, His love unlocked.
Judgment, pride and arrogance broken,
To be replaced by a peace unspoken.
A grateful man lies in this bowl,
With shiny souls forming one whole.
So look for me in that glorious dish,
I lay contented, without a wish.
Submerged within a broken hue,
A rock among rocks restored to new.
Within its Rock I have been freed.
Once it fell on me to crush,
And into pieces my life rushed.
Not tumbled pebbles pretty and bright,
But broken shards that stung at night.
This rock upon the ages built,
His goal was not of shame or guilt.

[P.S. By now you are probably agreeing with me about keeping a pad of paper and a pen/pencil handy so you can jot down notes on your favorite poems in each of the threads that I’ve posted so far. The poems are really good, aren’t they? I hope the RTH Poets can count on your enthusiastic support when the Judging Phase begins ]
Enjoy!
