Poetry of Images Entries—Fourth Group of Ten
Hello Fellow RTH Members.
Phase 1 of the Poetry of Images Contest closed as of Midnight ET on Thursday, August 23, 2007. I was overwhelmed by the supportive response to my first solo contest. In all, 21 RTH members submitted a total of 50 poems!
I want to give everyone here at RTH the opportunity to enjoy each of these poems as much as I have. That is why I am offering just ten poems per day during a stretch of five days. On Thursday, August 30th, I will post the specific rules for how you can cast your THREE votes via a PM to me.
Please feel welcome to post supportive critiques and comments about the poems in each of the five Poetry of Images Entries threads. (Everyone is welcome to post in these threads: the Contestants; the Lapidary Artists whose work is featured in the attributed photos; and all of the other members of RTH.) This is your chance to show support for your favorite poem or poet; indulge in shameless self-promotion [this concept has definitely caught on very well ] if you are the author of one of these wonderful poems; and campaign for votes when the judging opens on Friday, August 31, 2007 (via PM to Lady B).
Here, for your reading pleasure, is the fourth group of ten poems. They are posted in sub-groupings: Poems follow the respective images from the Gallery of Photos that inspired the poets.
The poems and their respective poets included in this thread are: The Goon by BuiltonRock.; The Royal Cabber by adrian65; Born of Shifting Sand by beefjello; I Am Here by RockHobbit; There You Were by texaswoodie; The Lurker by huffstuff; Creature of the Air by krazydiamond; The Wooden Treasure by adrian65; A Forest Of Stone by NMrocks; and Elmer's Wove Fow Wocks by connrock. (This last poem should definitely be read outloud in order to appreciate its full beauty. )

The Goon
by BuiltonRock.
Once upon a midnight moon.
I took wing to a sultry saloon.
It wasn't wise to stay till noon.
And to the alley my body strewn.
Rose to quiver, sick and swoon.
Was I a clown and a big buffoon?
My mind is blubber, my lungs harpooned.
All I recall is a one eyed goon!

The Royal Cabber
by adrian65
They say somewhere between the Rockies and Pacific
From San Francisco Bay not far,
There is a master cabber, an artist so terrific!
His name, I hear, is Ed Orekar.
And when this craftsman's noble skill
Collides with such a royal beauty rock,
There is no one who would not feel a thrill.
Surely the kings would keep this jewel under lock.
His cabs look not like grinded, but caressed
And would in any royal crown sit proudly
Thanks to his hands which certainly are blessed.
"Way to go, Stoner!", we should all say loudly !

I Am Here
by RockHobbit
I sat on a hill with God today,
His presence puts me in awe.
To think; That every leaf,
Every grain of sand,
Every drop of water;
Is His creation for us.
Every hill, large and small,
Every tree coming majestically from the ground,
Towering so far above me,
With the breeze blowing through it's branches,
And I suddenly feel so small.
And yet I am here,
And there is a reason.
I feel a great comfort in God's love.
I feel alive in God's presence.
I feel to be a part of God's world.
I'm not afraid to live or die.
And I'm not afraid to love.
God's faith in me,
Has given me faith in Him.
My heart feels lifted to the treetops,
And as free as the birds.
I feel love - I feel God.

There You Were
by texaswoodie
There you were, lying in the sand
Dull and beaten
Having been stepped on many times
On a whimsy, I picked you up
And gently held you in my hands
And saw in you what others could not see
I took you home and cut away the despair
I ground away the blemishes, and healed the fractures
I polished you and made you shine
And now you adorn the hands of Queens

The Lurker
by huffstuff
I've been lurking for only a week
And I finally joined today
Now what a surprise
You guys have got
A contest I can play!
I appreciate the chance
Having no rocks to my name
With nothing to lose
And goodies to gain
(My husband already thinks I'm insane…)

The Wooden Treasure
by adrian65
I once was Tree. And I've been chosen
Among my sisters’ hundred dozen
To last over the countless years.
Some people watch me with joy tears,
They pick me like I'd be a treasure
And both for me and them it's pleasure
To have each other side by side.
They are the groom, I am the bride.
I am so colorfully dressed
So you won't find two just the same
And with the time that gently passed
The more beautiful I became.
I could name lots of my admirers
But don't want anyone to hurt
And just to keep this poem shorter
I mention two: Adrian and Curt.

[P.S. By now you are probably agreeing with me about keeping a pad of paper and a pen/pencil handy so you can jot down notes on your favorite poems (there are 40 of them now) in each of the threads that I’ve posted so far.
The poems are really good, aren’t they? I hope the RTH Poets can count on your enthusiastic support when the Judging Phase begins ]
Enjoy!
