Poetry of Images Entries—Fifth & Final Group of Ten
Hello Fellow RTH Members.
Phase 1 of the Poetry of Images Contest closed as of Midnight ET on Thursday, August 23, 2007. I was overwhelmed by the supportive response to my first solo contest. In all, 21 RTH members submitted a total of 50 poems!
I wanted to give everyone here at RTH the opportunity to enjoy each of these poems as much as I have. Thus, I offered just ten poems per day over the past four days. This Thread represents the final grouping of 10 poems. Tomorrow, Thursday, August 30th, I will post the specific rules for how you can cast your THREE votes via a PM to me. The Judging will open on Friday, August 31st, at 12:01 AM ET.
Please feel welcome to post supportive critiques and comments about the poems in each or any of the five Poetry of Images Entries threads. (Everyone is welcome to post in these threads: the Contestants; the Lapidary Artists whose work is featured in the attributed photos; and all of the other members of RTH.) This is your chance to show support for your favorite Poet or poem; indulge in shameless self-promotion if you are the author of one of these wonderful poems; and beef up the campaigning-for-votes for your favorite Poet or poem.
Here, for your reading pleasure, is the fifth & final group of ten poems. They are posted in sub-groupings: Poems follow the respective images from the Gallery of Photos that inspired the poets.
The poems and their respective poets included in this thread are: The Blackness Spreads by huffstuff; Rough Tumble Rumble by Harry; Ocean Jasper by onewomanarmy; Stormy Ocean Swirl by Harry; Tumbled Ocean Jasper by cpdad; Wonderful Shiny by Harry; Ode to OJ by sabre52; The White Kitty by adrian65; Bastet by NMrocks; and Boogie Board Blowfish by BuiltonRock..

Ocean Jasper
by onewomanarmy
I think I shall never capture
Anything lovely as ocean jasper.
A jasper whose colors speak in silence
Of a birth begun in volcanic violence.
A jasper that only a knowing eye may discover
Once the Ocean herself pulls back the cover.
Upon whose rough the tides have crashed,
Among whose boulders the sea has splashed.
A jasper with beauty no artist could best,
Nature’s soul by itself expressed.
Sophisticated gems may be worth their cost,
But jaspers such as these can stir a faith nearly lost.

Of a birth begun in volcanic violence.
A jasper that only a knowing eye may discover

Tumbled Ocean Jasper
by cpdad
ah, tumbled ocean jasper
the patterns, the orbs
and inspiring effects of raster
this wonderful stone
found along an intertidal shore
is one that most will always adore
these stones from the ocean
have an affect on some
as strong as a well conceived potion
ah, tumbled ocean jasper
well done, rollingstone,
not bad for being known as an
ocean jasper smasher

found along an intertidal shore

Ode to OJ
by sabre52
All seeing eyes peering from cold voids
Planetary bodies circling on collision courses
Pink and green seas of blooming flowers
Protons and electrons dancing their atomic waltz
Multicolored concentric circles in immortal rock
Children's bouncing balls of bright unlikely colors
Random bursts of energy from expanding stars
Universal microcosm in siliceous stone
Planetary bodies circling on collision courses
Pink and green seas of blooming flowers
Protons and electrons dancing their atomic waltz
Multicolored concentric circles in immortal rock
Children's bouncing balls of bright unlikely colors
Random bursts of energy from expanding stars
Universal microcosm in siliceous stone

The White Kitty
by adrian65
I don't remember where, there was once a white cat,
And just like all her sisters, she dreamed to catch a rat
So she stood still and waited for some rat or mouse to hear
For this, just like a radar she kept moving her ear.
The poor white little kitty was deaf, but didn’t know that
And couldn't hear the ring-bell, not speaking 'bout the rat
So, here she is, still waiting quietly and full of hope.
But do you think she'll ever catch it? Nope!
Nope!

Boogie Board Blowfish
by BuiltonRock.
Puff, the boogie board blowfish, lived in the sea.
And goofed off in the waves all day and they called him Dude Gnarly.
A little sponge name Grouper loved that Gnarly Puff.
And brought him things like rock made rings and other tumbled stuff.
Puff, the boogie board blowfish, could ride out the crest.
And hung out with the primo dudes all beating on their chests.
His little dweeb friend, Grouper, didn't quit fit in.
But was often stoked, he told poor jokes and took it on the chin.
Together they would take off on a tandem boogie board run.
Grouper hung his toes, he walked the nose and man they had some fun.
Night and day they differed but were still the best of friends.
It's funny how we disallow but true men can transcend.
No one lives forever and a sponge's life is short.
It happened on a Mondo day, it's my sadness to report.
Puff, the gnarly blowfish, could boogie board no more.
His Bro was gone, a bogus dawn, he fell to the ocean floor.
Puff, the best friend blowfish that a sponge ever knew,
Started telling folks grouper's old poor jokes and his hue quit being blue.
Oh, Puff, the boogie board blowfish, lived in the sea.
And goofed off in the waves all day and they called him a friend Gnarly.

[P.S. I hope you have been keeping that pad of paper and a pen/pencil handy so you could jot down notes on your favorite poems. If you have read through each of the threads of 10 poems, you now have 50 poems jostling for pride of place. Have you picked your favorites, yet? I know I have, but I cannot vote in my own contest. You can and I sincerely hope you do! ]
Enjoy!
