Hi everyone! As you've probably noticed if you had a look in the photo area, I've just returned from Lesbos Island and visited the Petrified Forrest there. I also found there some nice beach pebbles. It's hard to feel the beauty and wilderness of those places if you were not there, but I would like to share with you some images, knowledges and rocks from there. So, the prize of my contest consists of: - one full 3 lb barrel with pebbles for tumbling (picture will come in a couple of days) - the color printed guide of the Petrified Forest Park (in English) - a CD with all the pics I've made in the petrified Forest area (and not only). OK now, your task is to be the first one who finds the correct answers to both of these two questions: - what was the name of the hotel we stayed in? (that's the hotel and you can see the advertising above, but not the name ) - what is the circumference of the basis of the petrified log in the pic below (in cm - required precision is 5 cm) ? You may change your answers as many times you wish, only the last answer will be taken into account. The first one who guesses wins all the prizes described above. I will give you some clues, but not now. OK, one single clue for the moment, as the hotels' names can be so diverse I tell you the name has to do with rocks. Good luck everyone, I'm looking for your answers! Adrian

Welcome back Adrian! Your contest sounds too good to pass up - so after doing much research - I've decided that you stayed at the Petra Hotel and that log is about 858 cm around.
If not I sure wish you woulda and I sure wish it was...that prize sounds awesome! ;D

Good contest, Adrian.
I'll go with the Theophilos Hotel in the community of Petra on the Island of Lesbos. (It looks gorgeous, BTW.)
And for the girth of that incredible tree I'll go with 457 cm. (It looks BIG!)

Welcome back, Adrian and family! You stayed at the Aphrodite Hotel of Molyvos (Modified my answer: OK, no clue why it's rock related....but it did mention the pet wood on it's site).
And the circumfrence of that amazing pet tree is about 3 or 4 Matts linking hands around the tree; I'm going with roughly 3.5 Matts, or 600 cm. BIG tree! How fun!

I think you stayed at the Heliotrope and the circumference is 230.7 cm.

Well, well, well... I think I am not the only one who was in Lesbos Island. Or some of you are very good in net searching. Some of you are very close and guessed the hotel's name OR the exactly circumference, but none gave BOTH correct answers. Keep trying! In order to help you for the second question, here's another pic of the tree. So, Karen, you could count the Matts more easily now ;D Adrian

Ok, Adrian.
I'll stick with the Theophilos Hotel in the community of Petra on the Island of Lesbos.
But now that I see you standing in front of the tree I'm changing the girth upwards to 815 cm. (Now, It looks REALLY BIG!)

THAT CONTEST ENDED SO FAST! JUST LIKE MY VACATION!
PLEASE, folks, tell me how did you figure so quickly it's about Heliotropion?
And you, Onewomanarmy, how did you find that exact figure, 858 cm?
So, the winner is .... ONEWOMANARMY! Congratulation!
I would like to spread the CD with pictures to as many RTH-ers as I could, so I'll send you some extra CD's to mail them to your "neighbours" and so on. So, Onewomanarmy, please PM me your address and the number of CD's you could mail for others (maybe 2 to 5 or such).
Thank you everyone for participation,
Adrian
