In the Life, the Universe and Everything Board, Harry has posted an amazing review of 47 of the 50 poems entered in the Poetry of Images Contest (he did not sing any praises of his own 3 entries in his review). You can read his tribute in the following Thread: Views From Over The Water
forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=polit&action=display&thread=1189288121
Or you can use this handy guide to determine which poems deserve your votes. ( I realize that not all RTH members have the time for, or necessarily the interest in, reading 50 poems but still want to participate in the voting.)
What follows is a quick synopsis of each of the 50 poems entered in the Poetry of Images Contest. The poems are listed in the alphabetical order of the photos that inspired them:
[Please Note: The synopses are Lady B’s take on each of the proffered poems. They are not necessarily the intent of the individual poet’s nor the consensus of RTH readers. ]
(The # placed below the photos refers to the Threads in which the poems can be found; the links for the threads are listed at the end of this post.)
Footnote 1: Aussie Translations
Strewth I'm in fair dinkum strife.
And I fear very much for my wife,
Cause my dog’s lost his bark,
and my chooks have all carked.
For that stone egg may cost me my life.
Translation: (Courtesy of pporky)
By God’s truth, I’m in really serious trouble.
And I fear very much for my wife,
Cause my dog’s lost his bark,
And my chickens have all died.
For that stone egg may cost me my life.
(Tends to lose a bit of spark in the translation, don’t you agree? )
Footnote 2: Elmer's Wove Fow Wocks
Some readers might not be familiar with Elmer Fudd and his severe speech impediment. The following information is exerpted from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elmer_Fudd:
Elmer J. Fudd is one of the most famous Looney Tunes cartoon characters. His aim is to shoot Bugs Bunny ( a wascally wabbit), but he usually ends up seriously injuring himself. Elmer lacked the malice of a true villain. He nearly always misplaced r and l with w when he would talk in his slightly raspy voice.
His stock line is: "Shhhhhhhh, be vewy vewy quiet; I'm hunting wabbits, heheheheheheh".
Okay Folks! There you have it…50 poems reduced to just a few words each! Now PLEASE!
