Poetry of Images Prize Winning Poets and Poems [glow=red,3,300]Grand Prize Winner[/glow] Beefjello 2 The Prize Inside by dtcmor Once long ago, in a land far away, Two young boys came out to play. Best friends they were, and always together, They knew, somehow, it would last forever
One day they came upon a place, with rocks and trees and shimmering waves. It soon became their favorite play spot, The boys did play there quite a lot.
While exploring one day, beside a stream, They spotted a rock, like a Jewel, for a dream. It was large and round, with a colorful shine, Deep inside was a shadow, covered over by time.
Inquisitive boys, they wanted to see, What the shadow inside could possibly be. They set about trying to split open the prize, To reveal the secret that lay inside.
Rock on rock they hammered all day, Hoping the secret would soon give way. A small crack soon formed, and started to run. It became a race with the near setting sun.
They had worked all day for one small crack, But once it was started, 'Twas no turning back. The mystery inside was too much to chance, They worked through the night with their hammering dance.
At last the bright hour of morning did come. They continued their work with the rising sun. And so it went, for day upon day. The two young boys forgot about play.
The rock did consume them with terrible dread. They hoped for the prize, before they were dead. And so it went, as weeks turned to years. The boys were no more; they both now wore beards.
Then finally one day, after one mighty blow, The two heard a sound, that let them both know. The blasts of their hammering, quickly subdued. They stared at the gem, that was now split in two.
Time seemed to stop, as they reigned in their pride. After all of those years, the prize opened wide. With curious eyes, like two boys long gone, They each picked a halve, and both looked on.
The jewel they had worked as boys to men, Held the images of them, as boys they had been. Two perfect pictures in stone had been formed. The symbols of youth and friendship were mourned.
Each man with his half finally knew what it meant, As the life they had shared was now nearly spent. Worked out in friendship, as children and men, They could now truly play, as their task was at end.
Like boys, they did play, running wild and free. Their lives spent as friends, was as full as could be. They passed shortly after, as old men must do, Clutching halves of their lives in fists of two.
Their bodies now lay near the old favorite place. In time the land changed to mountains and waves. The memories forgotten of two little friends, But it is not in sadness that the tale ends.
The Two turned to dust, and then covered by muds, Their bodies transformed by the ages of floods. They heaved and they pitched and were tumbled about. The ground was torn open, and then they popped out.
Many years later, along came a Man, Searching bright, shiny gems with colors and bands. Discovered again were these two joyful fellows, By the craft and the blade that belonged to Beefjello.
So the moral, you see, is not as it looks. Hard work and some friendship was all that it took. Even though the two boys are seemingly gone, Their beauty of friendship can still be passed on. *** *** *** [glow=red,3,300]First Runner-Up Winner[/glow] (A Three-Way Tie) Sabre 1 Psychedelic P.B.J.
by krazydiamond
Now we all know, Mel's got some Rock, and when he posts, we all do flock. But all of us would love to trade for his Psychedelic P.B.J.
This stuff is just a west coast thing, Us east coast folks don't have the bling. But planetwide it is the rage, Psychedelic P.B.J.
Now you all say, "KD, yo're trippin'!" you may be right, I could be flippin', But this is all i got to say: "Psychedelic P.B.J!!!!!"
gimme some, Psychedelic P.B.J. got to have some, Psychedelic, P.B.J. don't you need some? Psychedelic P.B.J.
UHN! *** *** *** Rollingstone 1 Ocean Jasper by onewomanarmy I think I shall never capture Anything lovely as ocean jasper.
A jasper whose colors speak in silence Of a birth begun in volcanic violence.
A jasper that only a knowing eye may discover Once the Ocean herself pulls back the cover.
Upon whose rough the tides have crashed, Among whose boulders the sea has splashed.
A jasper with beauty no artist could best, Nature’s soul by itself expressed.
Sophisticated gems may be worth their cost, But jaspers such as these can stir a faith nearly lost. *** *** *** Stoner 4 There You Were
by texaswoodie
There you were, lying in the sand Dull and beaten Having been stepped on many times On a whimsy, I picked you up And gently held you in my hands And saw in you what others could not see I took you home and cut away the despair I ground away the blemishes, and healed the fractures I polished you and made you shine And now you adorn the hands of Queens *** *** *** [glow=red,3,300]Second Runner-Up Winner[/glow] (A Two-Way Tie) Desertdweller 4 Boogie Board Blowfish by BuiltonRock. Puff, the boogie board blowfish, lived in the sea. And goofed off in the waves all day and they called him Dude Gnarly. A little sponge name Grouper loved that Gnarly Puff. And brought him things like rock made rings and other tumbled stuff.
Puff, the boogie board blowfish, could ride out the crest. And hung out with the primo dudes all beating on their chests. His little dweeb friend, Grouper, didn't quit fit in. But was often stoked, he told poor jokes and took it on the chin.
Together they would take off on a tandem boogie board run. Grouper hung his toes, he walked the nose and man they had some fun. Night and day they differed but were still the best of friends. It's funny how we disallow but true men can transcend.
No one lives forever and a sponge's life is short. It happened on a Mondo day, it's my sadness to report. Puff, the gnarly blowfish, could boogie board no more. His Bro was gone, a bogus dawn, he fell to the ocean floor.
Puff, the best friend blowfish that a sponge ever knew, Started telling folks grouper's old poor jokes and his hue quit being blue. Oh, Puff, the boogie board blowfish, lived in the sea. And goofed off in the waves all day and they called him a friend Gnarly. *** *** *** Beefjello 3 Elmer's Wove Fow Wocks

They walk around staring, always at this rock.. My friends, my family, they are not themselves. Rock, this rock, absorbs them, controls them? They all have them, want me to have one too. I resist, something inside me fears This rock. What is this rock? Intriguing. I pick one up and look inside, inside it’s moving, Boiling, no, bubbling, no, it’s reaching for the surface. Rock, this rock, it’s alive. Alive! Wanting, reaching trying to get something, Something, what does it want? Rock, rock, I must put it down. It’s coming, coming out for me, Oh no, me, it’s me it wants. Rock, pain, oh the pain, I must…. *** *** *** First Runner-Up Category Stoner 4 I Am Here
by RockHobbit
I sat on a hill with God today, His presence puts me in awe. To think; That every leaf, Every grain of sand, Every drop of water; Is His creation for us. Every hill, large and small, Every tree coming majestically from the ground, Towering so far above me, With the breeze blowing through it's branches, And I suddenly feel so small. And yet I am here, And there is a reason. I feel a great comfort in God's love. I feel alive in God's presence. I feel to be a part of God's world. I'm not afraid to live or die. And I'm not afraid to love. God's faith in me, Has given me faith in Him. My heart feels lifted to the treetops, And as free as the birds. I feel love - I feel God. *** *** *** Rollingstone 1 Ode to OJ by sabre52 All seeing eyes peering from cold voids Planetary bodies circling on collision courses Pink and green seas of blooming flowers Protons and electrons dancing their atomic waltz
Multicolored concentric circles in immortal rock Children's bouncing balls of bright unlikely colors Random bursts of energy from expanding stars Universal microcosm in siliceous stone *** *** *** Builtonrock 2 Stone Jones by Tony W Stone Jones, Water drip. Gladly, sick. The fever breaks before my arbor. *** *** *** Second Runner-Up Category Beefjello 1 Owyhee by beefjello I think that I shall never see Jasper quite like Owyhee I'm not even sure how it's pronounced Is "awe-a-he" how it's announced? Or maybe it's like screaming "Owie!" When you stub your toe, oh holy cowie! However said, the name that grabs you I just can't wait to slab and cab you! *** *** *** Parfive 1 My Daughter
by huffstuff
My daughter melted my lipsticks Her favorite color is pink Her second favorite is brown, you see I'll put her in time-out, I think. *** *** *** Desert Dweller 3 Rock Pox by pporky Now I’ve gone and caught the rocks pox, And I’ve got it pretty bad, So don’t you start a laughing, ‘Cos it’s nearly sent me mad.
I started out just looking, But soon that weren’t enough, So then I started picking up, So I could feel that lovely stuff.
Now when those rocks were in my hand, I was compelled for more, And then would you believe it? They were right before my jaw!
The next move was instinctive; I soon knew this was no game, But me tongue lashed out and licked one, And now I’ll never be the same.
It turned out that it was dino poo, And now don’t think I am a liar, But when that stuff had touched my tongue, It set my mouth on fire!
My kidneys both are jaded now; In my leg I have a quartzite vein; Doc says me liver’s petrified, And I’ve agatized my brain.
But that don’t stop me licking rocks, Much to my wife’s disgust; She says they’re dirty horrid things, But to me it’s only dust.
I licked one piece the other day, And I’ve come down with opal fever, But it only made my wife real mad, She suggested I should leave her.
She was only joking though! Now she’s got the wrapping craze; So all my cabs I give to her, Though she most likes chrysoprase.
Now thank you friends, for reading, The poem that I wrote, And don’t forget ol’ pporky, When the time comes round to vote! *** *** *** Congratulations to the Winners of the Special Recognition Awards: Adrian and some of the Petrified Wood he so dearly loves! Harry, who writes little poems but grows enormous pumpkins! *** *** ***

Hooray for LadyB! Congrats to all of the poets! My daughter will be so excited that a poem about her won a prize, thank you everyone! What a fabulous way to get to know a great bunch of people - through poetry and "shameless promotion." So are we going on a road trip to LadyB's? Amy

It sure has been a wild ride. Can't imagine any other contest ever getting this much hoopla. Congrats and thanks to LadyB who did an amazing amount of work on this contest (did it end up being more than you expected?) It was worth it. My congrats also to all the winners and participants, you all made it such an enjoyable experience. I'm kinda in deflation mode right now, I don't know what to do without such a consuming contest.
LadyB, when does the book come out? What is your next contest? Then again maybe I don't wanna know. ;D
Thanks again LadyB.

OMG!?! I am shocked and at a total loss for words! All I can say to everyone is a BIG THANK YOU!!!!!! ;D ;D There are so many great people here who share so much. Kate(and mcdoverbob) is a true JEWEL and she has worked very hard on this very elegant contest. She was able to bring out a very different side of this hobby we share and opened many hearts to inspiration. As I said in my tribute poem to her - I will never be able to look at rocks the same way again. They are all beautiful treasures to be found and to behold! Thanks Kate for all that you have done with this contest and all that you have contributed to each and every one of us!!!!!!!! ;D ;D Next up are all of the great members that contribute to this great place RTH!!! I want to personally thank Brian(beefjello) for such an awsome piece of inspiration - The eggs rock!!! All of the artists provided a great canvas of inspiration for everyone of the 21 poets that submitted poems. There is alot of beautiful and creative work done and posted here, and now I have a better appreciation for the people behind the pictures and creations. A job well done by everyone! To all of the other poets I would say this. Your writings are truly a work of art! All of the poems are treasures and true heart felt expressions of the hobby we share. Your poems reflect the generosity and spirit that is known so well here at RTH, and now we all can see a little more of the person inside. Thanks to all for sharing their imaginations! In my heart you are all GRAND PRIZE WINNERS!!!!! For everyone that voted for my poem........ I am truly at a loss for words!!! I can not express the humble Thank You enough to all of the great people here. I am honored that you chose my poem. There were so many other great poems written, but for all of you to pick mine is somewhat overwhelming and unexpected. I am truly honored!! / I would also like to congratulate all of the other winners. They worked hard with their imaginations and truly deserve it. As I said above.... I think you all were Grand Prize Winners. Way to go!!!!! Again, A BIG THANK YOU to everyone!! Dave

I have to say, I'm honored to be mentioned among some of the great poems written for this contest! Thanks to everyone who entered, voted, made fun of, and of course - ran this contest. It was a maddening, thrilling ride while it lasted (write write write! vote vote vote!! wait wait wait!!!) but in the end well worth the cost in order to get to know everyone just a little better through their poetry. Congratulations to all! And thanks to LadyB for the...encouragement.

Thanks to you Brian for providing the inspiration!!! I saw the original post and was drawn to the mirrored images from the start. I could not help but think of two playful boys and the life they would share together. They are two awesome pieces, and well worth the tributes that all the poets conceived. I want to personally thank you for your contribution to the inspiration behind my poem! Keep up the great work!! ;D

Thank you Mz B for having this contest and all the work you put into it.
Thank you to all the poets. Without you, there would not have been a contest.
Thank you to all that took the time to read and vote in the contest.
I'm pretty much flabergasted that anything I wrote won something. I think I must have gotten the sympathy votes. :-)
Thanks to all again!
