[glow=red,2,300]OK, here is the first official Rockin' Recipe Challenge.[/glow]
Rules:
1. Pick a rock picture.
2. Make something edible and yummy that looks like that rock. Please use at least 7 ingredients and cooking methods such that anyone, anywhere on this board, could reproduce in their kitchens.
3. Here's a fun little twist! Use a rock. It has to be a rock, though. Stoneware cookware, pizza stones etc. don't count. No, you can't use rocks heated in a campfire to heat your soup. You can, howver, use a rock to pound your chicken, hit your schnitzels, roll your dough, etc. Be creative!
4. Post it here, with complete recipe instructions, a picture of your inspirational rock picture, a picture of the finished product, and a picture of how you used a rock.
That's all, folks!
The criteria will be:
A. Most similar to the inspirational rock picture. B. Ease of creating the same dish in kitchens everywhere. C. Best use of rocks as cooking aids/implements.
A minimum of 9 prizes will be awarded, along with a Grand Prize for the person who best adheres to all three criteria.
This contest will be open until we have at least 20-25 recipes. You may submit multiple entries.
Recipes, positive comments, pictures etc. will be added to the new RTH recipe book, which will be available sometime in the future.
You may or may not get bonus points for submitting poems (recipe related), pictures of cute kids (cooking the recipes), great additional rock pix (recipe related), and so forth and so on.
Karen
*I reserve the right to refuse rude, inappropriate or derogitory submissions.

YUM! What a FUN contest this is going to be, Karen. And the best part--we are all going to be Winners because we all get the recipes to try for ourselves when they are compiled in the RTH Cookbook!!!
Ooooo. I think I'm getting hungry! ;D

Okay...a few questions (yes I am a dumba**)
Does the "inspirational photo" have to be from here? Can I take a photo of my own rocks as long as I show it here with the recipe?
Are there some options for people who don't have a digital camera? We want to include everyone after all.
I guess that's all for now. I'm sure I'll come up with more stupid questions later.

"Inspirational photo" can be a photo of your choice from wherever you choose to get it.
New Prize offered by Tony Terner!!! How cool is that? Thanks, Tony!

Karen,
I have a quick question. The rock we use to "mangle" the food doesn't have to be the rock that the food looks like, right?
Thanks,
Kate

Kate, NO, the rock you use to mangle does NOT have to be the rock that the food looks like! Sorry, I missed your question.

Thanks Karen.
I should have my recipe posted by this weekend. I hear there's some Lady riding herd on us here at RTH warning us we better get cooking. I don't want her coming after me!
Just call me Lady BeaBea, Lady B, Lady BlabberPoster, Lady Big Guns. Oh Heck!!! I don't even know who I am anymore!!! ;D

Hold on to your hat's folks!! The Big Guns are coming Now if you haven't already cooked up a storm, you'd better rattle those pots and pans!! It could get messy! There have been some exciting creations appearing in this competition, but I'm sure there is more to come! Let's see what sort of inspirational food we like, and then find some pictures that match A variation on marble cake is quick and easy to find, and if your more of an artistic type there's always crazy icing creations!!! If you haven't guessed yet I'm a sweet tooth! I had another moment at morning coffee the other day, looking in the tin I was struck how much biscuits look like cabochons! And the sweetie shop has millions of gemmy looking things, so I'm sure they might come in handy somewhwere along the way! As to what we have seen so far.... Adrian! That's a remarkable dish, fantastic recipie which was really great to see. I like the pet wood rocks too, and enjoyed your style in the kitchen very much! I like the way that you shaped the rolls to become just like your little log! They were reallly cool! Thanks for the recipie!! And good luck with the competition! Shannon, that looks soouper! I'm going to swap out the chicken bit for veggie stock and have a try. It was brilliant to see the kids cooking up a storm, kids enjoying their healthy food rocks!! I'm taking my mossy agates out of polish in a couple of weeks !!!! So this will be a nice reminder before the gemmy joy to follow! Good luck with the rest of the competition, and thanks for sharing your recipie. OK everyone! It's oven gloves on and get cooking!!! Let's see what amazing creations we can come up with - or of course we could just choose really plain rocks - No!!! Tomato soup Jasper is just tooooo easy Good Luck Everyone!!! And Hurry Up! I'm Huuuuuunnnnngry he he he he Cheers, Harry.

Quick question, Karen. Can the inspirational photo be a large rock formation, or does it have to be a single rock?
I'm going to be posting a layered chocolate trifle recipe... it's yummy!
;D

Your choice of inspirational pix, as long as you can get a photo. OK, I'm hungry again... and chocolate is always good!
