There may be a fire hazard lurking in your home and you are unaware of it. A loose 9 VOLT BATTERY in your kitchen junk drawer!!!!! I am working on a new home (painting wood work etc. my usual job) to replace one that burned to the ground. the fire marshal said that the probable cause was a 9 volt battery the shorted out. The homeowner asked why she had never heard of such a thing before and the fire marshal said that more people would burn their own house down. So I say look and make sure that you don't have this threat in your house. If you do and the battery is good put a piece of tape over the terminals so it can't short out. A house fire is a terrible thing to have happen especially when it can be easily prevented. Warren

Those 9V batteries can be a bitch since both terminals are on the same end of the battery... just push them up against a piece of tinfoil or similar, and presto, call 911 to deal with the fire.
Not a common occurrence, but definitely a risk.

I keep ALL my batteries in a special plastic battery box. They are alll pointing in the same direction so there will be no + and - ends close to each other. The box has big lettering on it to identify it as a container for batteries.

The 9V batteries are perfect for shorting out the chips the dentists put in our teeth. There should be very little voltage left after proper useage. They are good medicine against those daggoned Electricals! They are everywhere and relentless.

I remember, when I was younger, I used to put them in, one at a time, in the Radarange. That was cool! Sparks, dripping, then Bam! Used to be more fun than popping flies in the Radarange.
