You can buy rough from him and go on a treasure hunt like I have been on. I have been drunk on opal since before Christmas. Cutting and grinding, ooohing and ahhing. What a trip I love opal. I have it so bad I was out grinding in 40 degrees yesterday. Today it was in the 30's all day and I couldn't force myself to do it... but I wanted to... real bad. T

That's some fantastic looking rough you've gotten from Gene. Is that typical or do you just get extremely lucky with your selection?

Wow, can you post him and enquire about getting rough? How much does he charge for it? Boulder Opal seems to be the new 'it' rock on ebay! It was Ocean Jasper, or at least that's what I noticed. I used to think paying $15 was outrageous for a slab of OJ, and then it started getting to $65+ for a slab! Crazy! I tried bidding on 6# of boulder opal 'surprise' rough yesterday, and it went to around $122~ yikers!

Man, Tony, I am just amazed.... that is where I want to be. Mason jars just crammed full of color And you have solved some major problems I've been having. Like trying to dome all four sides because I can't imagine any face being the back... or cutting too thin to try and get more slices and hitting a vug and having it explode... or crying when I chase the fire too far and it goes away. All I need is jar after jar of replacement opal and I won't be so attached to each piece That first one is the rock that just keeps on giving..... that is all some great looking stuff. I've got one chunk that is bigger than my 10" blade, and a little color is showing all around it so I can't begin to decide where to make my first cut... I'm having a great time just looking at it trying to decide... but, now I see I just need to have lots of cut and trimmed replacement opal and I won't be so picky or protective Problem solved! I need more opal Tony
