From the listing: "The hood was custom built from sheet metal to replace the original plastic hood." I find it difficult to believe that anyone at Highland Park even knows what plastic is! ;D If any HP saw people read this I do have a question about the saw I am getting next week. What is the piece on the top front corner of the hood? I reckon I'll figure it out when it gets here, but it has me curious

That would e a vapor proof light fixture top. Inside there is a glass screw on cover over the light bulb. You'll have to use rough duty bulbs. It looks just like mine - the cord is cut off, probably got caught in the belt like mine.

Some of the later models of HP saws came with a big plastic bubble for a top. It was on the 14" and 15" models. I didn't know they put them on the 18"s. They cracked and turned yellow. Metal is better. The seller is dreaming if they think their saw weighs 250-300 lbs. Unless HP started making them out of thinner steel. My 18" weighs over 600 LBS. And I have the aching back to prove it...
