I've just bought a new bench grinder with carborundum wheels, and I was wondering how much faster a diamond wheel would shape agate. I have started on a cab with the Carborundum, but it is slow. Also, will a diamond wheel be usable at speeds of 3000 rpm +? Would a sintered wheel or coated wheel be better? Where is a good place to get a diamond wheel at a good price?
Thanks!
Thom

thom that for me is a good question. i have a genie. and i have a star diamond grinder. with a silicon carbide wheel. a lot of the time i use the silicon carbide an a hard rock first. because i can take of a lot fast. then i finish with the diamond and nova wheels. mike

carborundum aka silicon carbide is a low cost alternative to diamond. I have used both and diamond is much quicker. However 3000 rpm is to high for diamond.
