I stopped by there a couple time when I was out there. Outstanding place to visit for the rockhound and would recommend it to anyone.
I saw a large slab made from petrified wood that was found in the Holbrook area at the Tucson show a couple years ago. It must have been around 6 ft in dia- 5 inches thick. Sold for $18,000 and was being shipped to Norway. Gorgeous piece but can't imagine how they cut that without breaking it.

Hey Steve! Yes, I've been there a number of times & it is truly awe inspiring. The amount of quality wood is astounding & everything is so beautiful & interesting there. Anyone who is traveling through northern AZ should never miss it - you'll never see anything like it again! Patti

Wow! What an amazing world of wood. The fossils are too cool. The polished stump with amethyst is beyond words. I'd love to have those smiling agates smiling at me. How could you ever stay in a grumpy mood? I'd love to see the process for slicing and polishing one of those table slabs or a stump. Lets see if Mr. Jim Grey will become our guru. Thanks for sharing, and I'm so glad you got to experience this place firsthand. Mary

I remember there used to be inside the store a long, maybe six, seven inch around log that was completely polished. It was cut into sections, then placed next to each other. Didn't happen to get a picture of that one by any chance did you?

Condor, I know exactly what tree your talking about. I didn't get a shot of it unfortunately. It is a beautifully hand polished tree that is in sections...some gorgeous black wood. I can't remember how many hours it took to polish it but it was alot. There is so much to look at...and so many things you could actually photograph...I think I was half-way into the shock mode.
