I haven't been able to catch the Tourmaline one. I have an unhealthy fascination with tourmaline. If anyone has seen the Tourmaline episode, do you know where they went and is it open to the public? The location isn't listed on the travel channel's website, which is weird.

It was interesting. Apparently, all of the "diamonds" are in a pocket. Key is to find the pockets. Have you been, KD? Hubby and I plan on making a visit when they open in the spring.

The location isn't listed on the travel channel's website, which is weird. They were down outside of San Diego in the Pala District, I don't remember the exact name of the place they went, but I believe there are at least 2 or 3 pay dig sites in that area if I'm not mistaken... Here are 2 anyway, since one of them claims to be the "only one" there might yet be others; Himalaya Tourmaline Mine Contact: Simon King Phone: (619) 444-3731 Website: www.highdesertgemsandminerals.comFind your own bubble gum pink and green tourmalines at the world's most famous tourmaline mine. Over 200,000 lbs. produced since 1898, also producing quartz crystals, lepidolite, topaz, morganite, and other pegmatite minerals. Located near Mesa Grande, San Diego County, 20 east of Pala. $50 per person. Oceanview Gem Mine Pala, CA (No. San Diego Co.) Ph. (760) 489-1566 E-mail: freespool1@cox.net Website: digforgems.com The only operating gem mine in the historic Pala Mining District open to the public. Screen for tourmaline, aquamarine, morganite, spodumene and associated pegmatite minerals. Most Sundays year round by reservation only. $60 per person. Thanks for the info! *kicks self* If only I were into rocks 15 years ago. I lived in San Diego for a year ...see what I could have done then? Well, I've been wanting to visit again, this would be a great excuse.
