After posting some new style cabs earlier in this catagory I decided to try something new again. I call this one "Fantasy Cab". I was going to make it an oval, however, by doing so would have cut out some of the material. Next time I now know what to do. Again I am again asking for your input....it means a lot to me to have other opinion. I am looking forward to your opinion. Thank you in advance. gary

Hi, Thanks for the comments. No, not a guru, I just have a lot of time on my hands. It does take some time to get the rocks glued where you think they should go, but it is fun. I try and figure out in my head how it will look after it is all glued up. The only problem I am having now is I am running out of slabs. I only have a Workforce saw so I can only cut small rocks. It is kind of ironic(sp?) that only a few months ago I had so many slabs that I had purchased that I posted free slabs to anyone on this board who needed them. I think I sent out four boxes (roughly 16 pounds each) to members for no charge and that even included postage. Now that I have discovered how to make these cabs that I am really running short of different slabs. I am glad you all like them and I hope to continue making different ones in the near future. I have one drying now and I should be working on it this afternoon. thanks again, gary

You're good in those mosaic cabs, thank you for sharing the"technology". Do they keep together while grinding, or does it happen to split apart?

Beautiful cab! As a quilter, I love it! How big is the finished cab? Love your choices too...
Time does well in your hands!

I LOVE the ideas, and I think you're doing a great job of it. Since you asked, I WAS going to comment that I don't care much for that particular mix of stones, but since you said you're running out os material, it's a moot point.
There is one DISTINCT advantage to your new method ... you don't have to use big slabs from big rocks. You can pretty much use any small pieces. That's a HUGE advantage when it comes to buying the more expensive material. You can buy bulk small pieces MUCH cheaper than nice, big pieces or slabs. Using the more common stuff, such as agate and jasper, I don't think your mosaics will fetch enough money to make it worth the time and effort of doing it, but if you use the stuff that's known to be pricey, and you blend your materials nicely, you'll probably find that you can make some good money. Some good blends might be:
* Sugilite / Charoite
* Charoite / Rhodochrosite
* Blue and Green Turquoise
* Turquoise / Chrysocolla
* Turquoise / Red Coral
* Turquoise / Rhodonite
The Turquoise blends would look nice in a chevron/arrowhead configuration!
Keep up the great work!

The pieces so have not split apart during the cabbing process. I do use the 330 epoxy and it is holding without any trouble. I have tried in the past using different types of glue, aka super glue and others and they just did not hold. I do not use large pieces of material. The pieces I use are normally 3-4 inches long, 3/8" wide and a little over 1/4" thick. I have never seen any ebay auctions where you can purchase small slabs in bulk. If there is someone that does know where they can purchased that way PLEASE let me know. Again, thank you for your comments. gary

I don't know if this is your original idea or not but Rock & Gem magazine is having a lapidary article contest. I would think that this would be of very much interest to them.
