Nice job on the tumbling of beach rocks Tom. Not the easiest thing to get a consistantly good shine on. The slabs are great too. I've just recently rediscovered Cathedral agate myself, and you've got a winner there. What are you going to do with it? The Blue Mt is nice too.

Very nice colors on those beach pebles. The last tumbled rock pic is fantastic, and there are many more above. Beautiful.

Hey connrock...great job on the shine! When I get the chance, I'm gonna put together some rocks I have polished that are very similar to both of your batches but I've picked up mostly in my neighborhood! I was really surprised how much some of them resemble each other!

Woohoo Tom!! Awesome tumbles, that stuff from Japan is way cool, I love the one that looks like it has a piece of fall colored leaf in it. Thank you so much for taking the time to take pics of them. ;D

Hey Cher, I saw the piece of fall-covered leaf, too!
Tom, I love your beach rocks. It's interesting how different they are (OR versus Japan).

Thanks for the kind words! As Ed (stoner) was saying these darn beach rocks can be a problem. The ones from OR were MUCH easier to get a shine on then the ones from Japan. The Japanese rocks are full of tine fractures and pit's which hold the grit and can cause a real bad contamination.Trying to rough out these little imperfections is fruitless as all you end up with is slurry!! LOL I wash them 3+ times in a rotary with lotsa pellets, powdered laundry soap(Dreft) and a couple spoons of Borax. Then I blast each one by itself with a very fine high velocity spray. It's a real pain in the butt but it's the only way I have found to get a consistent shine on them. The beach in Japan goes as far as the eye can see and covered with this type of rocks!! NO ONE collects them !!Can you imagine??? LOLThey're too busy buildin cars and TV's I guess!! LOL Cher & Amy,,,,, That little rock with the "almost" oak leaf is the first one I spotted too!! Ed, The cathedral agate,,,, Over a year ago I entered the lapidary contest at Stone ageindustries with a cross I named The Old Rugged Cross and lost! About a month or so ago I got an email saying that I won the November contest with The Old Rugged Cross! I figured they weren't getting any entries so they went back to the archives and found the cross I made. Not true. They told me they choose it because it was the only entry that had anything to do with Christmas!! I tried to tell them that Jesus was born on Christmas,,,,not died!! They said well at least it's Jesus!!! LOL Can you imagine??? LOL Anyway I cot to choose anything for 50 bucks so I took a hunk of the A grade cathedral agate.I'm actually a little disappointed in it as it doesn't have the same pattern as some other pieces I have but it was free so what the heck!! Maybe I should carve out a manger and they'll give me a prize for it at Easter!!! Glad you all liked the rocks and if it wasn't for Cher's post I wouldn't have taken the time to do it. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=21099connrock
