I know I discussed this in the past, and Lady B encouraged me to get it done. Well, next week on Tuesday, 1/22/08, I will be going in to get my hip resurfaced! It's similar to a hip replacement, but not quite as extreme. But it's still surgery. Instead of removing and replacing, there's a cap that goes over the top of the thigh bone and a cup is placed into the pelvis where the "ball joint" goes into. This procedure (or at least the device) was finally approved here in the U.S recently. I guess they've been doing it for years overseas, especially in Belgium and India. There have been many Americans that have flown over there to have it done, and paid for it out of their own pocket. The testimonials of these patients have been very positive and the majority of them asked why they waited so long to do it! There's still some insurance companies that are denying coverage, but luckily, mine is not one of them! I should be back to work in 4-6 weeks. But it can take up to a year for complete healing/strengthening. Though I've only been dealing with the advanced pain over the last 3 years or so, it feels like a lifetime! I can't believe how much it has affected my life. I can't do the things I love to do or have to do without ending up in more pain (like walking, shopping, gardening, riding the motorcycle, sleeping, cleaning). And being in pain most of the time sure leaves you grouchy! I'm sure Earthdog will agree with that! I've been on a prescription pain med. for the last 2 years, too, which I'm sure isn't very healthy. Anyway, I just wanted to share with you that I'm embarking on a new chapter of my life. I'm going to be in some pain for the next couple of weeks, but I hope and pray that in the end, I will be pain-free and will be able to enjoy the little things in life again. And believe me, I won't be taking them for granted ever again! And if all falls into place, and I'm ready, Earthdog and I will be taking our first motorcycle trip out West with my new hip!

Modern medicine is amazing. Yesterday, not so good. Today, much better. I wish you luck, and speedy healing. Lets hope you don't get hit after the hip heals. Ride to live, live to ride.

Ain't anyone gonna say a prayer for me? What am I gonna do for the 3 days she is in the hospital and the couple weeks she can't do anything? Who's gonna cook for me and clean my laundry? At least pray that we don't kill each other while we are both home together. Not a fat chance! She doesn't have the key for it or the key for the "Hog barn", thats why we got her, her scooter. See it says "scooter chick" not Harley chick. It also says "when I grow up I wanna be a Harley, she ain't grown up enough yet...

Edog, it will be simple, Get a frying pan, crack four eggs, and mix the eggs in a bowl. Get some slices of bread. Good white cheap bread works well. Dip the bread in the egg mix and plop on the frying pan. Before it turns black, flip them. Before that side turns back, plop them on a plate. Get some sausages, Get a pan large enough to boil some vegetable oil. Get it hot enough to smoke real well. Plop four suasages into the oil, and keep pushing them down into the oil untill they get hard. Hard enough to not be able to stick a fork into them unless they are pinned to the bottom of the pan. Flop them onto the plate with the egged toast. Get some Tobasco, Green Jalepeno sauce, and slather them onto the egged toast, sausages, and make a pile on the plate. Get some of Dave's Insanity to top off the Tobasco Jalepeno sauce. Be generous. Then slather maple syrup all over the plate and you have an healthy wake up call. Do this for lunch, Dinner, and so forth. The real advantage to doing this is you do not have to wash the frying pan. Just heat it up real well, same with the oil. Just heat it untill it smokes. Wash it down with 100 proof peppermint schnappes, you can use some while you are making food. It helps take up the empty time between flipping the bread. You gonna be ok, She gonna be ok, you can even show her the breakfast meal you made for her. Suprise her the next day after surgery. Who knows, all of you can use my breakfast secret for every ride, or just everyday start up. Remeber, Maple syrup after the Jalepeno. Your eyes will burn if you do it the other way around. You know, no matter what, you gonna be there for her. That really matters.

I was thinking about maybe just spending a bunch of money on rib eyes. I can grill a mean steak. I'll eat steak every night for the next 4 weeks. They also have a KFC right down the road... As for the clothes, we still have two 15 y.o. daughters here to do the laundry... I tried to talk her into getting fixed during the summer when I'm back to work full time but she wouldn't have it. About the bathroom, every time I want to go I'll have to take one of those toilet seat risers off. She ordered one today. You know the kind with the big handles and the seat part is like a foot taller, yeah the kind for an invalid. When she asks me for something, I get to make her wait, coffee? to much sugar, tea? not hot enough. Toast? to dark. Cereal? to much milk and to soggy. This could be fun... Didn't Tweety just have a post about payback?

You go, girl. Hope everything works out well for you! And Edog, I can sure send you some quick and easy ressapeas, if ya want. Cleaning.... well, that's up to you! My advice is to learn how to work the appliances (all of them). Not a big thang, for someone with your skills. And my prayers are with BOTH of you!!

Yes, it's going to be interesting, to say the least! He's already kicked me out of the bedroom because he doesn't want to "hear" me with my pain. He forgets that I will have some help from painkillers, so he may not even know I'm there. Luckily, we still have teenagers at home, so the laundry and cleaning will still get done. Cooking might be a different story, though. I guess when I go grocery shopping this weekend, I better load up on the mac & cheese and soup and easy stuff like that!
I thank you all for the prayers, good luck and get well wishes! I am getting more nervous each day, but I'm trying to not think about it. I guess it's because I don't know what to expect. Thanks again!
