I am now in to the third week of the course grind. I was hoping that the rocks would be ready to go into the fine grind today but they still have some small pits and scratches. These rocks had a lot of course tumbling to do. my question is can you put plastic pellets into the course grind. it has ground down the rocks and I put some plastic pellets to make it 3/4 full. What do you all think was this and was this the proper way to bring the level back to 3/4 full.
Thanks

Plastic pellets in the 80 grit tend to be counter productive. They reduce friction. I would suggest adding more rock to the mix instead. It will get a head start on the next batch as well as fill the barrel to the desired amount. In the next grit stages make sure you use enough pellets to bring the barrel to 3/4 full.

Forget the plastic in the course grind. All it does is slow things down. These are bad, bad rocks, and you need to flog them until they submit to your will.
I agree with James. I tend to just add some more rough to the roller, but be careful to not over fill. My experience has been that about 2/3 full is optimum. In the rough grind expecially, you want the rocks to cascade from the top of the pile to the bottom, bouncing off the pile as they fall. Too little and the rocks never get "tipped over the top," too many and they don't have room to fall down the pile.
BTW...I'm fixin' to build a plexiglass cover for my Model B so I can investigate this.
You may have to go through a couple of rough grinds to accumulate enough rocks to have a full load in stage 2.
Save the plastic for the pre-polish and polish stages.

Well I put my first bach in the 150, 220 grit today. It was about 1/2 full so I did add some plastic pelets to get up to 3/4 full. I took out some of the Rocks that was not ready for the fine grit. How long should I run the Fine grit? With useing the plastic pelets will it make it so I will half to go longer in the fine grit?
Thanks

Good call adding the pellets. Even in 220 grit. The stones tend to chip themselves if the level gets around 1/2 full. Let it run for 7 days.
