Hey Rob I too got the email regarding this and thought - there goes my brain again! - I never managed to complete the first one without cheating but it sure was fun!
Cher it's riddles - not even really brain teasers, but more like brain fryers! some are really tough - the internet is a great help - the last one was pretty good

I admit that I did wash out of DR1 at riddle #56. I spent about 10 minutes last night just staring at the first one (town square) thinking to myself, aw jeez, here we go again... Have fun! ;D

I went to the page, clicked on the left side link and came up with another page with numbers on it. Meant nothing to me at all.

Mwahaha - Cher, that was the first one. Each page is a puzzle you have to solve. The answer on that page is the name of the next page of the puzzle. I averaged about a three pages a week. Some of them I was able to get in an hour, some took me days!

Yep, Adrian should have the "inside scoop", he sent me a Dracula's castle T-shirt awhile back. I never did get too far last year....

Well I think I've gotten as far as I'm going to go and actually came up with the answer to one of them all by myself. The rest was searching the internet, searching forums for help, there's a lot out there. I just don't seem to have the "outside of the box" thinking that's needed for this kind of stuff. Kept my interest for a little while though, I think some of them really have the right idea, they have several working together to figure it out.

Yeah, I'm stuck on one puzzle on the new one and trying to decide if this is really the route I want to go for next few months of my life as well.

I'm still on the old one, got to number 12 I think it was. Somewhere along the line I think I missed something though. I don't know, maybe I'll go back and look again next week. ;D

Cher, did you pick up the "bag" yet in DR1? (you are doing the 1st one right?) If I remember correctly, you come across it fairly early but don't need what's in it until a bit later on. It's easy to miss but if you are keeping BM's for each page you get to (like you should be) then it's an easy matter of revisiting them. I also suggest turning the brightness up on your monitor, or the "gamma" if you are using a TFT LCD display, there are sometimes subtle things "hidden" in low contrast areas of the images, or you can photoshop them if you want to. I actually had a chance to sit down with DR2 once during my week long RTH blackout so I managed to get my self dead ended on the harder riddles on each of the crossroads and then had to put it down while there was some local GPS contest action going on. ;D I find myself in Akan's situation as well, wondering if I can really afford to commit the time it will take to make my way through the treacherous lands of Transylvania with all the other time suckers i have going on constantly. On the out & out DR2 looks to start off with a higher difficulty rating than DR1 so it would probably be a good idea to "warm up" with DR1 to get your head outside the box enough to take on the stuff you're into right off the bat in DR2. It's definately also a good idea to recruit whoever you can to help you, as many of your friends, family & coworkers as possible... and ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS look at the sourcecode even if you're not stuck!!! You never know when boxcutter will decide to sneak things in there.

Lcars - that's where I paused. One of the places on the crossroads seems to deadend, I stepped back REAL quick from one of the pages on the crossroads, and then I've been playing on and off with the ELIMINATE page on the crossroads...

I found you need a really good video card and monitor to be able to decipher these things, having some sort of paint program helps with the colors too - I haven't delved yet into dracula 2, I couldn't solve the first ones without searching for hints or clues.... yet they are very challenging though
