Anyone here ever use the acrylic resins or epoxy for casting clear plastic blocks? I'm sure most of you have seen the scorpions in those clear paperweights for sale in some of the western states. I'd like to know more about what materials are used, suppliers, etc. I will NOT be using scorpions, bugs, etc but have something else in mind.
Are bad odors an issue using these types of liquid casting plastics?

I have used what was called Castolite. It is an acrylic resin. Bubbles are an issue. I used a vaccum table, both with mixing and pouring. I like the stuff, although, it is a bear to polish. I would reccomend casting without needing polishing. I found, if the vessel is polished prior to pouring, the finish is much better. It takes the shine of the container. Again, it does not polish well, it drags. With vaccuming, I found the resin cured more clearly also. Heat is also an issue. Too cold, and it cures cloudy, too hot, and it is not a good cure.

Does Castolite stink to the point where you have to use them outdoors or a shed? Or can you use it in the basement, garage, etc. I've worked with epoxy before and it smells terrible.

Hey Steve, check with Rockyone, he did a table last year with lots of rock slabs and used some kind of acrylic stuff on it.
