I ran a pcv pipe about 5-6 inches down on the inlet port as advised. I hooked up a ~2 foot straight attachment that came with my vac to the outlet and then the flex vacuum hose. I noted after filling the bucket the first time that there was oil inside the straight tube on the outlet. I didn't think much of it since it was mentioned that it might go up a couple of inches. Hi rykk ... I was curious HOW exactly did you do this modification? I'm having trouble envisioning how the PVC pipe is attached or how it works exactly ... can you expound on that a bit? Or even better - do you have any pictures?? Would definitely appreciate it!!

I have had one of these for a while now , a lot rougher than this, just a couple of near size holes cut into the lid that I squeeze the vac hose and the sucker hose into.
Don't be tempted to use your home vac for this I have had the splashed muck inside the bucket working its way back up the vac hose. I could probably fix that issue with some baffles perhaps.
Swimming Pool shops have the corrugated hose.
Good thread.

You won't have to worry about oil up the vac. hose, it amounts to a mist that collects at the hose end. If you have a killer shop vac. the oil will only coat about 2 inches of the vac. hose , simply wipe it out with a kleenex and your finger. If you are worried about it, run for a couple min. and check to ease your mind some !

Mine does suck a little oil into the hose & even to the vacuum itself. Lynn

I ran my inlet fitting almost to the bottom of the bucket so the vac. wouldn't pick up any of the splash going in the pail ( BUT )
if you hook this Obama engineered sludge sucker to a (SERIOUS ) vac., I could see getting a bunch of oil up the hose !

I had to run it last night and hose is way too stiff, going to look for a different hose. Will check and see if vacuum hose has any oil in it. Sucks the sludge up pretty darn good.

1dave - For the dirty end of the hose, I would not recommend standard Vac hose with corrugations. The corrugations will collect sludge, become heavy, make the hose harder to manage & keep clean. I use straight tubing on the dirty end & don't need any crevice tool, just the chopped off end. Lynn

Built the sucker this afternoon, will have to get a barbed fitting and maybe install a baffle. Can you show a picture of the "barbed fitting"?

I saw this thread this morning for the first time... I went out to the shop and built one. I used 3/4" fittings, a street 90 on the dirty end to put the sludge against the side of the bucket, and used my variable speed Fein lead vac from my contracting days. Started slow and increased the vacuum until it was pulling good on the sludge but never got a drop on my clean end. I am in heaven. Didn't even have to wash my hands after cleaning out my LS-12. I should look around on here a bit more. Thanks Tony! Hope to see you again one of these days. Happy holidays all, Bill

w00t! Thank you!!!! Turns out we don't have enough oil in our saws to work with a 1 inch diameter hose without sucking up air which then of course impacts how the fluid flows up the hose. I have an idea that ought to work for it though that I am hoping to try out this weekend.
