She called and said the doctor suggested her getting a bedside commode. Thats great! Takila will be sleeping in the livingroom for the first few days or week since most everything she'll need and want is on the first floor, huge tv, Tivo, and the kitchen plus it's easier for people to come over and see her therethan to trek upstairs to our bedroom. The only thing she won't have down there is the bathroom and she ain't gonna be able to get up a bunch of stairs right away. We bought a toilet seat rizer already with handles but now Takila wants a bedside crapper also. I told her since we already have a camping port-a-pottie she could use that. She says it's too low and doesn't have handles. I said I could put it on the coffee table for her and it would be the right height for her. Noooo, it's gotta have handles! So hear I am calling all around for this special crapper and everyone wants $120 for one. To rent the thing it's $20 a day and you must buy the pot for $20. I'm only 47 and I have never thought about a bedside commode before, didn't even know they made such a thing. Can you imagine me calling everywhere asking for a portable crapper with handles? God the things we do for the people we love/care about... I found one thats a loaner! fFrom the Lions club. Pretty good ain't I? This woman is gonna owe me big time... Now I have to figure out who's gonna empty the thing. Maybe I can pay her daughter to empty it... I also wonder if I could hook up some flexable pipe and a small pump from Harbor Freight and pump it out into the neighbor's backyard...

After the pot has been emptied and rinsed, add about a half inch of water and a teaspoon of real vanilla that otherwise linger in the plastic. It will cut undesirable odors--especially since this pot has to stay in your downstairs living area.
And she really does have to have a BSC with armrests until she can return to using the commode in the bathroom. ;D

I'll tell ya what, how about I leave it ouside and bring it in when she needs it? It's only 9 degrees outside.. Either that or I'll tell her daughter to add the vanilla to it and I'll go buy a case of Glade...

Hang in there Jimmy... I know exactly what you're going through. It can be rough but you'll get through it. The most nerve wracking part for me when Lainy had her surgery was the drive home from the hospital but once you get her home you'll start to feel better about things. You'll be busy no doubt but in a few weeks she'll probably start feeling better and it will slowly get back to 'Normal". Just remember that she will need to take it easy for a long time... Lainy's surgery was back in Nov. and I won't let her do anything... no parties, no travel, no nothin'.... We're not going through this again like last time (isn't Titanium supposed to be unbreakable?... lol...)
Anyway... holler if you need anything... You da man... Dan

Should I go rent a big 4 wheel drive pickup, you know the kind with a 6" lift kit and 38" mudder tires? I bet it would ride real smooth. Thanks Dan, but I did holler at ya, remember I asked you to fly up here for a couple weeks and I'll go riding down south somewhere. It'll be fine, really. I know she will appreciate everything I do for her and she'll show it in her own special way.

Oh she came home this afternoon. I picked her up at 3:pm then we had to stop and get her bedside crapper then go to Walgreens and get her meds. Like the topic says, the fun has started. She is in alot of pain and not comfortable anywhere. She just happens to be cranky, bitchy and just not in a good mood. I made her some soup, coffee then about a half hour ago I, like a good loving husband washed her hair for her. Now I gotta get away from her for an hour or so...

Hang in there, just wait untill the surgery starts to heal! This is just the warm up. Then she will get a little better and feel completely trapped by the surgery. She will even get miserable when she is happy! She will feel compromised by having the loo in the living room, you having to wait on her, people coming over and trying to be real supportive of her. It will feel like you are living with an alien life form. Her head will turn around in circles, her eyes will turn black, she will spew green stuff and talk in a deep voice. Keep sharp instruments out of reach. Wait untill you tell her how strong she has been, and how well she took it. Wait untill her how her needs give you strength as her husband. Just remember, she will get better. Watch how you sleep. Women know men gotta sleep sometime. She will sneak up late at night with those black eyes, deep voice speaking some long forgotten language, knife in hand, ready for an human sacrifice. Never close both eyes even in sleep. Yet, she would have done no less for you. In about six months, she will wake up and remember who you are. Just like nothing happened. If you are missing any body parts she will ask what happened. Hang in there. Sumpin tells me you all going to make it. I know a lot of husbands who disappear at a time like this. A few who respond to the call. Hip surgery is tough stuff. It is a big deal. Both of you hang in there. This is where the rubber hits the road. The real tough guys do what you are doing for her.

Earth, this is when you find out how much you love her. The commode is a prelude to things to come. For better or for worse, the next 6 months will be the "For Worse" as you are nursing her back to health. I went through a whole year helping my father out last year with his hip surgery he is 77 years old. It wasn't fun and stressful at times, but kept reminding myself he and my mom (now deceased, bless her soul) brought me into this world. He is on his feet now and never felt better. She will be glad she did it belive me. Glad she made it through safely and hope she heals in no time, her age is on her side.

Edog & Tequila, my thoughts and prayers and etc. are with you both! And your family.... You will get thru this! It's not fun, worrying about biological functions anytime, let alone when you are in pain. But the fact is.... those darn functions have to be dealt with! Bless your heart, Edog, for helping out with the "for worse" parts of marriage. And hang in there, Tequila, and suffer the indignities as best you can. I'll send a quick and easy cookbook, just for Edog. Maybe he'll learn to cook?? And hold September in your minds as a goal to work for? You guys will be fine!

Wow! She better be ready to ride in 4 months. We have a big ride out west to YellowStone the end of May, or I'll be doing it on my bike alone. Good thing there will be others going with on the trip. I wonder if I could talk her into letting me get a replacement for the ride if she isn't ready.
I am a master on the gril' and smoker but with the price of meat I'll go broke buying it all the time. Thanks again my friends. You guys are a big help letting me vent..

Hang in there, we're here whenever you need someone to "vent" to. I'll bet Sands and Mark will even delete stuff for ya, if it gets too intense!
I'm proud of you. Best wishes to takila.
