I recently got my saw back up and running and cut through some rough boulder opal chunks. Years ago I acquired some low budget lighter brown matrix material from Koroit Australia. most is not really good but once in awhile you score. This is one cut of many less the stellar stones that provided a "gem" in the rough. Here is the chunk I extracted and made into a preform. As you can see from the host rock it wasn't real pretty. Here are the good parts of it:
