I gave this little slab of thunder egg to my sister-in-law and she asked me if I could wrap it. I did, not very well but guess it's ok. She wanted it very very simple but I'd never done prongs before. Don't think I like them much either but it'll have to do. Sandi's Bug

Backlit it looks like the Fat Lady singing.
Looks great to me Cher. I like the stone and there's nothing wrong with the wrap either. As a hindsight quarterback, I wouldn't have put in the bottom prong.

Oh man, I'll never look at it backlit again. ;D Thanks Curt. As far as the bottom prong goes, I think it would have been far too lose without it. As it is, it's still not as secure as I like them to be, particularly on the top where there is no prong. It wouldn't take much of a push to knock it out. I wish I had steel shots so I could tumble it to harden it more.

It's about time you got to wrapping a stone again! I think it looks great Cher. And I like the look of the prongs.

Thanks you guys. You wouldn't have liked the prongs at all if you could have heard me when I cut the first one off while trimming the binding wires. Yup, had two sections wrapped together and then cut one of the prongs right off. I was lucky I had enough extra wire to finish it. I don't mind so much how they look, I just don't feel like they are secure enough. I'm working on a special one Ed, soon as I can use my fingers again. ;D

I like it very much, Cher! The claws are equal, they are equally distributed, it,s just great!

LOL! Yep, it does look like the fat lady singing! I like the wrap, Cher! The prongs are all nice and tidy. I'm sure prongs aren't the easiest things to get to come out nice.

I think it looks like a tadpole backlit! I like it Cher, but I like the one you did for me better, haha. I am still getting compliments and comments on it, by the way! I've been thinking about those prongs, and I think they work well with rocks that have interesting shapes, if that makes sense? Or when you want the rock itself to really, really shine...

Karen I tried to wrap it the same way I did the one for you but there was no way, it's just too big and I couldn't get it secured at all. The prongs do make it much easier for the stone itself to show through so on that side it's a good thing.
Thanks for the compliments all ... I still don't see the fat lady but do kind of see the tadpole.

The prongs looks very symetrical (sp) and tend to not take away from the beauty of the stone. I often use them with some of my pieces of turquoise especially when both sides are attractive enough to be the front. What I'm digging are the 2 little curliques on the top!
I'm doing most of my wrapping as gifts for my kid's friends (teen-agers) and they like it very simple. Nice piece of turq with prongs or even a hole drilled (ugg) for a simple loop with a bail on a chain or a leather thong. At least they're not too time-comsuming.

I thought I had commented on this already! I like it, Cher. I know what you're saying about the loose prongs though. I've found they're a little more secure if the binding wires are right there on either side of the prong. It give it a bit more stiffness...

Thanks Rhonda, I'll have to remember that if I ever do one again. Have to get more square wire though, I don't think it would look as good with round wire. But then what do I know. ;D

I think it turned out great. Your prongs turned out more even than mine did. Tami

Hey Cher, beautiful wrap, I cant believe that's a first attempt at prongs. The stone is cool. It looks like a layer is peeled back on the 1st shot and we are looking into it's underworld. The backlit shot looks a pink veil or scarf floating in the wind. Would you be able to move the curly Q's over the stone at the top, any, to add any stability there? I've never done any wire wrapping, yet. I get inspired for sure, visiting here. I've been given some very beautiful pendants and would love recieving that bug if I were Sandi. Good job.

It really is the first thing I've ever done with prongs, I've studied a lot of pictures though. That might be an idea I can pass on to Sandi about the curlies, I can't look at it as I've already shipped it off to her. Thanks all for the compliments.

I tried to do prongs over the weekend and quickly grew tired of it! It is a technique that is well worth getting good at though-as mentioned above, for interesting stones, or larger stones. Karen

NICE JOB,
You did a super looking wrap there. I have tried the prong business and they are NOT my favorite type of project. They are hateful little things that like to mess with my head !!!!! After 3 or 4 wraps with prongs I put them in the same catagory as junkyard dogs and 10 foot long Rattlesnakes !!!
SOMETHINGS are just best left alone !!!
