Okay folks, do you think this is a slab of Holly Blue, or a dyed agate. I'm thinking it is Holly Blue because of the white rind on the edge. Here is a chunk of Holly Blue I'm going to cab for one of my customers, and they sure do look alike, but I thought I'd see if someone here could confirm it for me.

Cool, thanks Mel. This slab is about 3" x 2" and already polished.

Yeah, Ed, not too many agates look like that. Always seemed strange to me that lots of Holly Blue is more purple than blue. I've actually seen it called Holly Purple. Another possibility would be Royal Purple Aztec lace Agate sliced parallel to the banding. It's lacy sliced perpendicular to the bands but looks a lot like Holly if sliced parallel because the banding is sometime lost. I'd vote for the Holly though, if I had to pick one because your's tends towards bluish tones too while the other tends to often have a little yellowish tone to some of the banded areas....Mel

Don't know what it is, but it sure is pretty. It's almost a lavender colour.

Id vote for holley blue, my uncle lives just a few miles from the dig site for holley blue and that has the right crust and coloring. I tried to get access to the dig site when I was at his house last year, but it is now owned by a logging company and they said due to insurance issues no one is allowed in there anymore.
Nice piece.

The cab on the lower right next to the opal is the usual Holly "Blue", but I think it is more purple. Bob
